That was the HBO theme for the theme? Not bad, but still not 100%. Respect your experimenting!

welcome back.
I love happening on a disc like Nippon Girls (2009) and realizing the thoughtful and informative notes were written by DJ Sheila. Very cool.

Ken From Hyde Park:

Primavera Sound was nice to hear, but it's also nice to have the Boom Boom back again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
listener james from westwood:

If the HBO theme made the odd appearance down the line, even if it doesn't become the new lead, I wouldn't say no!
Related: There's a making-of documentary done by HBO, findable on YouTube, for the whole intro film that goes with that intro theme, and it is fascinating. Tons of work went into that bit of film and it was all pre-CGI. Cool stuff.
Avatar 3:13pm
djsheilab:

@Listener James I think that bit of HBO theme music is so well written. And I love the build-up + intensity + explosion! It will definitely make another appearance at some point.

Sheila, it worked for me. I like the usual starter too. I'm pretty easy to please!

love the intro! couldnt place it at first and guessed it was from some sexy 70s movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm

IIRC, HBO sponsors (or sponsored) the movies in Bryant Park each summer, and they would play it before the films, setting off a massive nostalgia bomb.

Terre T. would sometimes play the original version of Cherry Blossom Clinic instead of the later one, just to mix it up.

JP, being self-unemployed is great (as long as you have enough money saved up)! He didn't get any meatballs or sauce on the painting, but he did paint Venus with blue hair and a hula hoop that was also Saturn's rings.

Ferdinand Jay Smith composed the music for another iconic piece of televised packaging: He was responsible for the theme for the opening, bumpers, and closing of the ABC movies of the week from 1981 to 1987, better known as the "Star Tunnel" package.”

@Moneybags I missed Mercury Rev opening for Ride because of stupid train cancellations. Incidentally they played at the opening of Bella Union's little vinyl record shop in Brighton last night.

@djsheilab: Wow! I didn't catch mono but My Bloody Valentine's sons and light show made me deaf for 3 days. No mono, but hey!

sheilab great to hear this Chip Taylor tribute. Agree totally that someone does not have to pass on to be heard. Bit like we do not tell our loved ones what we think of them until they are gone.
Saw Chip last year at a very small London venue, very disappointed that London could not show more respect with a bigger show. Just him and his old friend John Platania, think he is getting a little morose in his later years but heck what a songwriter. My favourite album is This Side of Big River. A country boy in NY.
