Why not released? It was kinda great, ahead of its time

Morning Nick and all. Waking up to this took a second. Great!
  12:52am
Pete L:

hey did any of this Barrett stuff like this with a full electric band with drums etc get "officially " released ever? you know back then when it might have mattered?GREAT show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55am
coelacanth:

i think both his solo albums had full instrumentation.

Dean:

Heard today for the first time Cinematic Orchestra and, first impression, quite enjoyed it. Any opinions?
Avatar 1:02am
Scraps deSelby:

Yeah, and the two albums were released by Harvest, who were putting out albums by Pink Floyd and Deep Purple. Definitely Official, no scare quotes.
Avatar 1:05am
mauri:

There is a game called Samorost and the first one had a sample of Cinematic Orchestras music in it. I quite like Motion album. I didn't care for Ma Fleur and I don't know about Everyday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06am
coelacanth:

yes. i don't know why i said "i think..." - i guess because i shamefully don't have either of those albums; but yeah, definitely full band.
  1:09am
rw:

coelacanth, you should have both those albums. Shame on you.
  1:09am
Pete L:

thanks i was thinking alot of it was more acoustic-ish, some of it is
  1:09am
Dean:

Thanks, mauri. I think I was hearing Man with a Movie Camera, but I don't exactly remember. It was being played in a greeting card shop. It appears they really are a "cinematic" orchestra, doing soundtracks and games and such.
  1:12am
rw:

Pete L, yes, it's a mixture. That particular track and maybe a couple others sound more full band-ish. There's a song about an octopus ride that's more full band-ish too.
Avatar 1:12am
Scraps deSelby:

Basically, Pete, people really tried to get Barrett famous "when it mattered". Barrett wasn't cooperating, because (frankly) he was moving towards insanity. Read just Wikipedia on Syd Barrett; it's revealing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15am
coelacanth:

that's what i've read too. a lot of the acoustic stuff we have access to today is unfinished songs or demos because he was so frustrating to work with.
  1:22am
Dean:

Brand and Ibrahim together?!

This is one beautiful recording.
Avatar 1:24am
Scraps deSelby:

Wow, this is not what I expect from Dollar Brand / Abdullah Ibrahim. Maybe I should try more of bed band / orchestra from him.
Avatar 1:26am
Scraps deSelby:

"bed band"? That's an . . . interesting spellcheck.
  1:28am
Nick Name:

hello all - thx for checking in - hope you are all doing well
  1:29am
Pete L:

Dollar Brand a/k/a Abdullah Ibrahim did a bit of "out" stuff before the later stuff which tended to be quite lyrical - love that guy hard to go wrong
  1:34am
Pete L:

Ibrahim also did a score for a film called "No Fear No Die" the soundtrack album is excellent
  1:37am
Dean:

"Easter Joy" brings to mind Handel's "Messiah." You know, "Hallelujah..."

Use of a Dog! Awesome!
Avatar 1:50am
Scraps deSelby:

Song of the Bailing Man on the first CD left off "Use of a Dog". I was dismayed! But the recent one restored it. Yay!
  1:53am
rw:

Wasn't Song of the Bailing Man kind of short? I remember it as more of an EP. What's the use of editing a song like that? There should have been plenty of room on the CD.
  1:58am
rw:

Huh, I just looked it up and Song of the Bailing Man is a regular length album. Still could have fit easily onto a CD though.
Avatar 2:04am
Scraps deSelby:

Yep. It was mysterious
Avatar 2:06am
Scraps deSelby:

Nick, you played "Use of a Dog", not "The Long Walk Home"
