It's my first time back in NOLA for 20 years. Here to do some mother-in-law ash sprinkling. As I was going through the TSA security screening, the x-ray machine lady asked what was in the hard case inside my duffel. "My mother-in-law." I calmly replied, suppressing a giggle.

Doug has played a version of in-a-gadda-da-vida form another country, and if I recall correctly, it also had the phasing done between the left and right channels done during the drum solo, so that when listened in mono mode, it gets that phasing effect--just like the original version.

oh man. We briefly had this sweet cat who loved to play fetch with wrapped cough drops for some reason (maybe because they were always laying around the house).
When we'd get bored of her bringing the cough drop back to us and stop throwing it, she'd just go get on a chair or bed and bat them off, chase them to the floor, then repeat.
Sadly, she probably got zapped by coyotes, a common fate for our kitty pals up here.

Speaking of purple and Cleveland, do you remember back in the early '80s when Cleveland tried branding itself as "The Big Plum" to echo NYC's Big Apple moniker? What a joke!

Yeah, maybe Cleveland should have went for "The Big Prune"--BTW, I have to admit that I love prunes! They have a bad name, hence the attempted rebranding to "dried plums."

'76 was a very good year for records in London. Picked up the first Pistols single, and a Quadraphonic version of Absolute Elsewhere's "In Search of Ancient Gods," the latter used at Cheapo Cheapo. Alas, I missed Gryphon live at the Marquee. I remember walking into the Virgin store across from Hyde Park Corner. Blondie's first album was playing, first I'd heard it. Which is kind of weird, because that album came out very late in the year, and yet I was there in the middle of fall...

@Brian in UK: I don't know those. Should I?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm

Sorry I missed that Mankey record. The cover on discogs features a Music Plus price tag. At the time, I was working at Music Plus (a small chain run by refugees of the Wherehouse in the late '70s). And speaking of record stores, Greg Shaw's BOMP! (the label that released the Mankey record) was pretty cool.

I was in London in '76 with a tour, high school students attending theater. Gryphon played the night we left for Stratford or Bath or somewhere. A couple of waiters at the hotel where we stayed offered to drive me from the Marquee to the new accommodations if I wanted to hear the band. I *almost* took them up on it, but chickened out. I think the show was 50p. Later, in '84, I heard Richard Harvey give a recital at Wigmore Hall, a venue very different from the Marquee.
