Bleah. I fell down catastrophically a half hour ago, on my hip. (I'm paralyzed on my right side, so if I start falling, I usually keep falling, with a "shit, I'm falling, can't do anything about it" feeling.) Now I'm lying down for a few hours, wondering if I should go to the hospital. Not a good feeling....

@Marcel: try using the bottom of a shot glass in a rocking/grinding motion to gently but firmly break up the buds, then use two fingers to remove the unwanted lumber, seeds (if any), etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am

@Bob: Hmm... maybe you solved my new hobby conundrum since I can't play guitar.

JP from KC:

Morning, all! I see we've got some interesting discussion going about a favorite topic of mine, and a touch of madness in the speakers from... George Harrison?! What the...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am
Marcel M:

This is interesting: "Synthesist Bernie Krause later pursued legal action against Harrison, claiming that "No Time Or Space" (UK LP side two, US LP side one) was essentially a recording of him demonstrating the Moog III to Harrison (this is detailed in Krause's book Into a Wild Sanctuary). Krause also claimed that the demonstration was recorded and released without his knowledge or consent. Krause's name was originally credited on the front cover under Harrison's cover credit, but it was painted over at Krause's insistence.[1] Despite this, the words "Assisted by Bernie Krause" can still be read from under the silver ink on original LP pressings."
  10:38am
Mark R:

This would be consistent with George's plagiarizing the melody of "My Sweet Lord" and borrowing James Taylor's lyric "Something in the way she moves." I know there's nothing new under the sun, but jeez.
  10:39am
Mark R:

i am enjoying the sounds, though. WFMU has warped my listening habits completely.

Thanks for the awesome set, Marty! I really need it today. The HVAC guys are working in the ceiling above my office, and a vibrating office and the deafening sound of a power saw on metal are SOOOO conducive to concentrating on my work. On the plus side, Being essentially trapped in my office by the ladders in the hallway means I'm much less likely to endure annoying visits from the sales department.

P-90:

I guess there's a line here, on one side, I might recognize that George was a James Taylor fan and recycled a lyric of his, or that My Sweet Lord is kinda inspired by He's So Fine. And I like those things too, so it's a little part of digging George that I dig where his influences and inspirations are coming from. But when I hear George's stuff, I don't feel like I'M "hearing" a lazy, unoriginal ripoff of those "influences", I feel like I'm hearing something new. He's copped a vibe from something that was great to begin with and transformed it. But (to single out an example, completely unfairly perhaps) when I hear Mariah Carey's "song" Fantasy, I just hear someone scatting and trilling in the shower over Tom Tom Club's Genius of Love, and I wish I were just listening to their original instead. She hasn't really created anything new, there's a difference there. (Sorry Mariah! Sure, you sing real good...)

yeah, i feel like an instructive comparison is the way Harrison filtered his influences, versus the way a band like Oasis handled their Beatles influences (uninteresting clones of the most lumpen parts of the Beatles, in general)

P-90:

@tomasz: agreed, Oasis/Beatles is a great example of what I was trying to say. You'd hear it and think: OK, I hear what their doing, but what's the point? Where's the real pleasure or reward supposed to be for me as audience, vs. just enjoying the original thing they're quoting?

My last word on "My Sweet Lord" is he was sued over it and lost. The curious thing is Phil Spector produced both "My Sweet Lord" and "He's So Fine." It never occurred to him that, "Hey, this tune sounds familiar. Where have I heard this before?" But I don't mean to diss George too much. I still love "All Things Must Pass," including "My Sweet Lord," and "The Concert for Bangla Desh" set the template for, and IMHO is still the best, of all the rock superstar charity concerts that followed.
