Morning, Ken and cory!

I have a very humble request for today.

It's not a specific song but an entire show. Specifically I'd like you to recreate the show recorded on June 28rd, 1996, including its respective mic breaks, commentary and everything. A live archive request if you like.

Alternatively you can play whatever you want (e.g Mueran Hermanos' El Circulo).
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 7:35am AnAnonymousParty:

I would like to hear a show from the future, just in case I'm busy that day.
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 7:37am -Ken:

Ken,

Yes. It is the earliest...playlist. There's no music archive in it.

It's called The French Creep (I wonder why)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19am Marcel M:

Morning Ken and friends. The corgi cabbage gif is amazing. It is a favorite on my profile page. I've got a nice collection of them on there now from this show.

We should have an Artificial Intelligence chatbot in here to keep us entertained before the show starts. It would interact with us providing musical insights and unknown facts about WFMU DJs.

MUERAAAAN HERMANOOOOOOOS!!!!

What a band. Thanks so much, Ken, for introducing me to the Argentinian couple.

By the way, I think, judging by the lyrics, 'El Circulo' is a nationalistic political statement about the Falklands/Malvinas Islands.

The UN resolution of this week just expanded this 'Circulo' when it gave Argentina the right of a vast maritime territory (covering the islands).
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 9:13am Ken From Hyde Park:

It's Gwenno! I really need to get this album.
  9:38am SeanG:

epic show already! love you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am Marcel M:

I think there are at least 2 RSDs now.. and Brian, I think you just need to go when they open and fight your way through, avoiding the Phish fans who want their box sets.
  9:40am Cliff:

Actually, isn't it Gwynno? :)
  9:41am Cliff:

Agh, never mind, the song I heard from them yesterday was spelled that way
Avatar 9:50am βrian:

Oh, Lord. I've *had* that Nancy dream!
  9:51am f×f× (:

GWEENNOOO!!

Here's an excerpt from the handy 'Pronunciation Guide To Gwenno Music':

"
About 'Fratolish Hiany Perpeshki'

The letter F should be labialized without protrusion of the lips or velarization.

The syllable Hia is pharyngealized.

The Shki sound should be emited with the retracted tongue root.

The Perp syllable is a group spirated voiced consonants. Therefore pronounce it accordingly.

The letter 'A' in Hiany should be pronounced with a voiceless dental fricative release.

"

Hope it helps. It definitely helps me.

Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 10:00am Vivian:

@Brian C - you could call the record store beforehand and ask. Don't listen to Marcel - judging from his comment, he hasn't attended a RSD in quite a while. No Phish box sets!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am Marcel M:

Haha.. I have a friend who works in a record store and complains about Phish fans coming in on record store day. I actually have never been to one, they seem really hellish, at least in NYC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am SeanG:

phish might be the worst band of all time right behind bare naked ladies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am Marcel M:

Maybe she is imagining the Phish fans... that would be something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am common:

I was supposed to review a phish record when I was young. I had never heard them. I ended up throwing the cd out of my window. painful.
  10:07am f×f× (:

A long time ago I wanted to become a Phish fan after some ardent advocates conviced me. But no matter how much I tried, I never became one.
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 10:07am Vivian:

@SeanG & Marcel M- I like Phish. But I also like Replacements, Neil Young, Mission of Burma..and have been listening to WFMU off and on since 1985. My music taste are all over the map. As far as Phish fans hitting RSD, I've never encountered them on line in Atlanta. Most are hipsters.
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 10:08am Vivian:

@common - I can't listen to a Phish record. Prefer their live recordings.
  10:09am βrian:

I would assume Vinyl is a series about cheap suburban siding.
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 10:09am Ken From Hyde Park:

Not to be confused with the other Dan Wilson from the Semisonic band!

same to you, seang!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am Aaron in Minneapolis:

And I heard theres a screening of Sex and Broadcasting in the works for my fair city, would you be at that Ken?
  11:13am Fern:

Ken, I think the marathon has reengerized you. This week's show along with last, are some of the best you've done in a while.
  11:18am Cliff:

Agreed, Fern!
  11:18am Billy London:

Amazing! DJ Rosie in the haus, what's her secret gift?
  11:19am Billy London:

Ammatoors
  11:19am f×f× (:

I think the best show Ken has ever produced is one he made few years ago which wasn't archived because it never went on air (a storm had just blew away the transmitter). It is his most uninhibited, unrestrained show because it was streamed online without any FCC restrictions. I still remember what I was doing when I heard the show.
  11:21am Jeffy Jazz:

The 1st video show was stellar!
It's hard to pick a Ken fave, though!
Avatar 11:21am βrian:

But why wasn't it archived?
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 11:21am -Ken:

aww thanks everybody
Avatar 11:21am Murakami Whywolf:

f×f× (: What was the date, I was time-shifting a lot back then and might be able to find it....
  11:23am Jeffy Jazz:

Sadly, Ckurdt Cobain went to The Lake of Fire.
  11:23am f×f× (:

The show wasn't archived because it was somehow improvised in Ken's house I think. Isn't Ken?
  11:24am Cliff:

I remember what you're talking about f×f×, it was during one of the hurricanes and nobody could even get to the station
  11:25am Cliff:

The DJs who still had power at their homes were web streaming from their own computers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am Aaron in Minneapolis:

Sandy did a number to the station
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 11:26am Webhamster Henry:

Ken was broadcasting from a rowboat in his sewage-filled basement.
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 11:27am Rich in Washington:

I remember those days. Despite everyone's hardships, it was riveting radio. Immediate.
  11:27am f×f× (:

The playlist exists but points to no file archive. But I can't remember the date. But it was during the aftermath of a hurricane that unfortunately canceled the Hippie Parade (Record Fair) that year.
Avatar 11:28am Murakami Whywolf:

I realise it's somewhat anti-democratic, but I suddenly felt nostalgic for old-money rich politicians with some sense of noblesse oblige and public probity...then again, all my grandparents were born when Victoria was Queen of England &c....and I'm not Japanese-American.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Aaron in Minneapolis:

Yes that was Sandy fxfx
  11:30am Fern:

@ fx, that was Sandy, so the show must have been in later October of 2012.
  11:31am f×f× (:

Indeed, Aaron. Sandy basically waterboarded Ken's show that day.

Can't believe I missed tonetta getting airtime, been recommending him to DJs on 6music for ages to no avail
  11:33am Listener Robert:

A 7SD that doesn't seem to be archived now was when Andy put Ken's kids to bed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Aaron in Minneapolis:

Ken you haven't answered any of my questions to you, are you that sick of me?
  11:34am f×f× (:

Yes! That same show, Ken!

From the comments below:

Fern: Tue. 10/30/12 6:01pm
Yo Ken, there gonna be an archive if this historic show?? I couldn't listen live.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am fred:

@Aaron: Ken is actually short for Koan. He just doesn't answer questions
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am SeanG:

there's also a Clay Pigeon show that isn't archived. he had a robot named Randy talking and it bummed everybody out, but not me! it's like September or October of last year. I need to hear it again!
  11:37am Cliff:

I'm not sure if this was the same hurricane, but I remember Clay Pigeon and Julie doing a marathon Saturday overnight/Sunday morning session because no one else could make it to the station, until Keili came in at 9am (and then Clay started interrogating her nonstop, heh)
  11:39am Pete:

Actually the Alien is British

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Parq:

Gee. The customer review of "Sounds Like Teen Spirit" on Amazon include one from Bob Shannon.
  11:44am f×f× (:

Unfortunately yes, Michael. Somehow it managed to stay in my long term memory.
Avatar 11:44am Losermom:

I cannot get enough of surfer instrumental. This one I may have to add to my itunes.
  11:47am Cliff:

What was the Bohemian Rhapsody show? Nothing but covers of Bohemian Rhapsody? I remember a show a few years ago with a set of Anarchy in the UK covers.
Avatar 11:48am sphere:

Now I come back and someone is rapping with Tuva throat singing. I love you Ken! :P

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am fred:

@Cliff: so you really haven't heard the infamous Bohemian Rhapsody show. Well it was worth it. Not that I'd be liable for any injury claim if you actually listen to it
