Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from March 25, 2016 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Brotzmann will be in SF at a tiny venue. Murray is playing at a wine tasting room in Vallejo(!), a club in Oakland, and at Phil Gelb's, solo, which includes a wonderful vegan dinner prepared by Gelb. I heard Murray at Phil's a few years back. After the show, the attendees dine with the performer! Pricey, but worth it.

I got No New York when it came out - I will admit I had lots of trouble listening to it - particularly James Chance

Dean:

Don't know about Phil Lesh venues, really (except for the ones where the Dead played, which I of course attended).

Yep, bought NNY when it was released as an LP. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Still love it.

I've heard Brotzmann live a number of times. The only show requiring protective gear was the Full Blast Trio. Apt name.

I spent much of the morning listening to a 1983 Van Halen concert on youtube. Really did it for me. Now I finally get to listen to the Hink Dink. I'm doing good.

My pal and I first discovered James White and the Blacks when we went dumpster diving in the dumpster behind a building having an office of Warner Electra Asylum. We found 12 inch singles of Contort Yourself.

Think I still have No Now York on vinyl...I took to James Chance for some reason, liked the album then (haven't put it on in many years).
Have to check out Brotzman one of these days, just know what I've heard from some recordings...

Indeed, NNY=Eno, one of the exceptions in my book to an otherwise general disfavoring of his work, the other being "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts." Been down this road before.
