Good point re: not a lot of Latin music on the air, even on the NYC airwaves. While staying in NYC once, I tried to get WFMU, couldn't, but somehow found a station playing a ton of boogaloo, and was in bliss.

In Chicago, put the radio on scan, and you will get a least 4 stations in Spanish. One of them actually transmits from Kankakee! The play the most current exitos! You usually find Cumbia, Batchata, or the kind of pop that sounds just like the English language top 40 except in Spanish or Spanglish.

doug, there was a sweet little short film from a decade or so ago: a farmer's wife had died and they had a cow he had to tend. he tried multiple times to approach the cow and she always ran.. one morning he realized his wife had always milked the cow, so he slipped on one of her house-dresses.. bingo! i wonder if your dad would love a piece of some of mom's clothing.. the scent and physical presence may calm him...it works for babies..

My dad does not know my mom has died, either. And he spends his best moments now talking about his service and his time in France/Luxembourg/Germany with the 5th Armored Division. Amazing stories he can recall like it was yesterday.

i worked in a nursing home... one of our patients spent most of her mind-time as a young woman, and oftentimes not at all recognizing her adult children who were very upset by that.. they hadn't been born yet, we had to remind them.
