Mother Tucker!, I mean Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Brian in UK:

mauri one of our team did hit a tree and broke the sled handle Luckily the musher in charge cut off a branch and lashed it up and carried on. He had just flown back from Alaska where he took part in a 1000 mile sled race in ten days. Tough guy.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm doctorjazz:

Hi all, Aretha's entry into the age of disco, great track. (it's always amused me that disco had the last lack, current pop music comes out of it so much).

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Dominick:

Hi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm listener james from westwood:

It's a sad universe, the one in which I was never a WFMU listener and learned about PLU much much later than I did, or never.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm listener james from westwood:

βrian: This copy editor agrees re: the blue pencil. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Charlie:

doctorjazz, Dominick, welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm doctorjazz:

Love this People Like Us mishmosh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Charlie:

James -- you know much of PLU is available for free download, if you need to catch up?
  12:35pm Listening Out There:

There's also a nifty documentary on PLU out there. You can see Vicki's nice garden too.
Avatar 12:36pm βrian:

I guess that's not Price LookUp, after all.
  12:37pm Listening Out There:

This PLU is not Pacific Lutheran University either, as they say here in the Seattle area...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm listener james from westwood:

@Charlie: Excellent to know; will no doubt spare me a playlist search or three on WFMU.org!
Avatar 12:37pm βrian:

I remember watching South Pacific with my parents, and then going out to dine at Trader Vic's. It was a natural segue.
Avatar 12:38pm Mayuko:

This woman is frightening to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Mike East:

I told my daughter on our walk to school yesterday "If you don't have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Charlie:

Yes, frightening on many levels...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Goyim in the AM:

It's tough to sing the hell out of a number with a ridiculous accent. Captain Sensible only got the ridiculous accent part on his version.
Avatar 12:39pm mauri:

I felt its happiness.
Avatar 12:40pm Cocakoala:

Talking about ridiculous accents....Peter Sellers in this film....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm listener james from westwood:

"Birdie num-num."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Charlie:

from wikipedia: "Happy Talk" is occasionally cut from productions of South Pacific on the grounds that the song is racist, citing the fake pidgin in which it is written.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Michael:

When I see Claudine Longet I think of the "Claudine Longet Invitational" Downhill competition.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Goyim in the AM:

As opposed to the other, non-problematic parts of that piece? Good thinking, Bowdlerists!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm doctorjazz:

Never heard the Supremes/Joni Mitchell cover, cool.
Avatar 12:49pm Roberto:

Dammit Charlie, you already played this in 2007.
  12:49pm santos l halper:

@doctorjazz: ditto, and thanks Charlie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm doctorjazz:

Up Up and Away...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Charlie:

Hi Goyim in theAM, Roberto, Santos Halper
@Roberto -- I never play a song I've never played before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Charlie:

...except this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Goyim in the AM:

Totally different head. Totally.
Avatar 12:53pm Roberto:

I happen to like that song, so it's all good. Like this one too! Waitresses 4 life
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm listener james from westwood:

@Michael, you're not the only one.
Avatar 12:56pm βrian:

My favorite cartoon was The Jetsams.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Charlie:

Planetary Flotsam
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm listener james from westwood:

It's the flotsam what gets'am (quoted from somewhere or other)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Dominick:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Brian in UK:

Avatar 1:17pm still b/p:

I starred Sole Sole Sole and then it came to a dole-dole-doleful end there.
  1:18pm jan:

aww, Charlie... I was happlily grooving on Siw Malmkvist & Umberto Mercato and that segue harshed my mellow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Charlie:

oh, sorry, still b/p, jan dunno what came over me!
Avatar 1:19pm Mayuko:

haha, I loved that segue!
  1:19pm andy the painter:

i was thinking how much the vocals on that Sole Sole Sole sounded like classic bollywood duet vocals. same era, maybe?
  1:20pm jan:

b/p? what dat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Charlie:

that was from 1964
Avatar 1:21pm βrian:

Chuck Wagon is ringing the dinner triangle. Gotta get some grub.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Charlie:

hello andy the painter.
yes it does have that bollywood duet feel at that
  1:24pm andy the painter:

Avatar 1:24pm still b/p:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Charlie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Goyim in the AM:

We are clearly in the sonic presence of a graduate of German Actress School.
Avatar 1:36pm Roberto:

Something about vegan schmutz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Goyim in the AM:

...and having googled her, I see that I am correct.
  1:40pm jan:

Diggin TV Girl!
Avatar 1:40pm Mayuko:

collected the rocks spilled out of your head. 56.media.tumblr.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Parq:

TV Girl link is not safe for work. Well, not my work, anyway. Great sounds, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Charlie:

Mayuko -- ooh, that's a great picture! Maybe I will substitute it for the one I have at the top of the page :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Brian in UK:

We need rain in Kansas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Brian in UK:

@Mayuko it is enticing.
Avatar 1:48pm Mayuko:

@Brian in UK I think that's what filled Charlie's brain today and responsible for that crazy segue etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Parq:

"Anna - Letmeinletmeout" was a frequent play on FMU when I first moved to New York. The sound of this record will always remind me of those good, bad first few months.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm listener james from westwood:

Through the intro, I thought this "Jasmine" was a Gary Wilson cut!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Goyim in the AM:

It was an actual hit in Germany and Austria.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Charlie:

Mayuko -- the picture is a cropped version of the cover of the album "Soundproof" by Ferrante and Teicher, back when they were playing pop songs on twin prepared pianos.
Avatar 1:55pm ndbob:

excellent show Charlie!
Avatar 1:55pm Mayuko:

Great, thanks for letting me know! I actually wrote their name down right away when I heard you played at the beginning, I loved it.
