Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Parq:

Neat that you're playing Them. I just found out that they were named after the giant-ant movie, which i just saw for the first time this past weekend.
  12:29pm Figures of Light:

Hey Joe - thanks for playing us - one thing - WISE UP is 2016 all the way!! Thanks so much!
  12:30pm Figures of Light:

And as long as you're playing Them, how about MYSTIC EYES, one of the craziest cuts ever - saw them perform it via satellite on WHERE THE ACTION IS (remember that?) with NO attempt at sync, ending up with Van Morrison falling into a canal!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm mariano:

This Dirty Fences rawks!!!
Avatar 12:42pm Todd-o-phonic:

Abjects playing at Berlin, 2nd St. and Ave. A in East Village on Friday March 11th. Between you spinning Larry Wallis and McGasko playing Lew Lewis earlier it's been a good day for early Stiff 45's. Maybe Jim Price can play a minute of "New Rose".
  12:47pm Sissophonic Cheryl:

Love this Equals cover! Thanks for getting me through this brutal Monday, keep the rock and roll coming, People's Champ!
Avatar 12:48pm Carmichael:

You only play this music once every 4 years, right?
Avatar 12:49pm Joe B:

ha, good one Carm, forgot the date!
Avatar 12:50pm Joe B:

thanks Cheryl!
Avatar 12:50pm Joe B:

thanks for the info todd. weird, I thought about playing lew also

thanks wheeler, fixed it
Avatar 👻 12:55pm acid casualty:

Nice to be able to listen at home. Great stuff, so far!
Avatar 1:00pm Todd-o-phonic:

"Some Kinda Love"...always thought an underrated VU track, maybe because live versions are much better than the studio one on third lp. In my humble opinion.
Avatar 1:01pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar 1:04pm Joe B:

thanks AC

agree TOT
Avatar 1:13pm V Priceless:

dusting off my Stylophone to play along....
  1:14pm Cliff:

Sounds like it's our daily moment to hold David Bowie in remembrance (jeeeez, I'm still a bit broken up over his death and how he was working right up until the very end to get stuff out)
Avatar 1:14pm Wild Neil:

@Joe et al-good afternoon! Peace be unto you all...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm chris:

is there anything that does not sound better in italian?
  1:15pm Cliff:

Not often I hear British/American artists doing an Italian version of their songs....German & French seem more common
Avatar 1:17pm Joe B:

the rascals did a couple in italian. i think there was even a monkees theme done in italian
  1:18pm Cliff:

Aww jeeez Joe, you're really pulling on my heartstrings now, sniff sniff

(The Monkees in Italian?! Hmmm)
Avatar 1:18pm V Priceless:

oh boy...here comes the flood...just...beautiful
  1:20pm Cliff:

Now I'm going to have go watch Lazarus on Youtube again, what an eerie video
  1:23pm Cliff:

Really cool backing band on this last Bowie album too, I'll have to check out some of their other work
  1:23pm ledzeppelinsucks:

thanks for playing this Bowie was a liar he gave away $100M
  1:25pm AJ:

Joe, yea Scrawl started playing again. They just opened up For Wussy for their "Forever Sounds" record release this past weekend down in Cincinnati.
  1:26pm Amy:

Joe, Scrawl are still playing fairly regularly, but not touring per se. I have friends in Columbus, so I've gotten to see them a couple of times in recent years.
  1:30pm Cliff:

But does anyone redo their stuff in Czech? That's what I'd really like to know, since I'm moving to Prague this summer :)
  1:31pm Cliff:

Kurt Gottschalk had that marathon premium a couple years back that had Czech artists covering US/UK hits, but that's not quite the same thing
Avatar 👻 1:35pm acid casualty:

Muggers were fantastic, king tuff, mikal cronin, ty and the gang killed it. Ty wore that disturbing baby mask and a black jumpsuit and jumped around like a baby. There was another babyman with diapers on and they threw tons of diapers and paper towels into the audience. The keyboardist looked like Lou reed circa walk on the wild side. A friend said he'd never seen nothing like it.
  1:37pm Cliff:

*Clean* diapers, I hope?!
Avatar 1:37pm Joe B:

thanks for the report!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Nate K.:

Love the new Atlantic Thrills.
  1:49pm bobby the sleepless wonder:

  1:51pm bobby the sleepless wonder:

well... you answered that!
Avatar 👻 1:58pm acid casualty:

@cliff ha. yeah. Still I'd hate to be on the cleaning crew that evening. There was stuff flying everywhere like a black lips show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm mariano:

Wow, this sounds a lot like early REM.
Avatar 2:00pm Joe B:

he is pals with mitch easter!
Avatar 2:02pm Seanbelly:

Is this Melissa Swingle?
  2:03pm Cliff:

acid casualty: If someone like G. G. Allin could exist and play shows, and get people to actually show up at them, then I assume nothing. It's rock-n-roll, man, now with free baby poo!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 2:03pm patrick321:

Hey Joe, don't think I've heard the Tim Lee 3 wow love it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Mike East:

hmm...just got an order from Mom+Pop for an upcoming recording...not sure who the artist is, though I have an idea.
  2:04pm Amy:

I loved that Tim Lee 3 song too.
Avatar 2:04pm Joe B:

seanbelly, great call! she did play on the show here once
Avatar 2:05pm Joe B:

for those who dont know, tim was in the great 80s band the windbreakers, and has a bunch of cool solo stuff besides this album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm mariano:

Mitch Easter... wow, hadn't thought of Let's Active in ages, thanks for jogging my memory.
  2:12pm Ignore Function:

Thanks for playing Waco Brothers. I saw them last night.
Avatar 2:12pm Seanbelly:

Amazing Joe, I'll have to dig it up. Who was she playing with at the time?
Avatar 2:13pm Joe B:

Sean it was the moaners by then, not trailer bride. still great. she apparently recently put out a solo album, will have to look into it
Avatar 2:14pm Joe B:

how were the wacos?
  2:16pm Ignore Function:

Wacos were great. They covered a traditional Irish folk song called "Teenage Kicks".
Avatar 2:18pm Seanbelly:

Thanks Joe, I liked the Moaners too.
Avatar 2:18pm Wild Neil:

@Cliff-was GG Allin a bad trip?
  2:19pm Amy:

I'd love to see the Wacos do "Teenage Kicks."
  2:20pm Cliff:

Wild Neil, he was one of a kind (thank goodness for that, I don't think we need another one). en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 2:23pm Joe B:

funny how people like bill cosby and kim fowley get taken to task yet a piece of shit like GG just sees his legacy grow as some kind of punk icon
  2:26pm Cliff:

At least when Throbbing Gristle consumed their own bodily emissions on stage, they had some sort of mission statement in mind for justifying what they were doing. GG Allin really just seemed like he liked to tick people off just for the hell of it
Avatar 2:27pm Joe B:

when he wasnt raping teenagers
Avatar 2:27pm Wild Neil:

@Joe-He is up there with Che Gevaurra amongst those who should simply be forgotten....and I am a bit ashamed I went through a stage where I liked Psychic TV to fit in with my friends. I would be very upset if my son said he liked them at all....
  2:29pm Cliff:

Right, I had all the statutory rape stuff completely blocked out of my memory. I doubt Genesis P-Orridge ever raped a teenager, or would want to
  2:30pm Sir Richard Slouch:

Champagne of Tears and Cancel My Disappointment? The wordplay is fast and furious today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm doctorjazz:

Tommy Keene reminded me a bit of Valley Lodge, a favorite of mine...
  2:32pm Cliff:

Wild Neil, Psychic TV was the much happier and joyful version of Throbbing Gristle, Genesis has always said he preferred playing in that band. Sure they were also a bunch of druggie degenerates, but who isn't in the music business?

(When'd you go see PTV, btw? How was the show?)
Avatar 2:33pm Wild Neil:

@Cliff-Lost Horizon in Syracuse. 1986 or so...
  2:33pm Cliff:

Out of the industrial bands I was more into Coil anyways, they were constantly changing their sound up with every album they put out. Kind of like the WFMU of the industrial scene in a way
  2:36pm Cliff:

Wild Neil - I grew up and am still living in Syracuse. One of these days I really oughta go see a show at the Lost Horizon (and eat at Dinosaur BBQ while I'm at it). And I've never been to see Niagara Falls either. Only got 4 months left until I move abroad!
Avatar 2:37pm Wild Neil:

The show was a bit disturbing but also the music seemed a bit shocking kind of like rap music was when it first came out...the BEST show I EVER SAW was at Lost Horizon...Masters of Reality. They TORE the roof off that sucker. WOW.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm mariano:

Where are you moving, Cliff?
  2:38pm Cliff:

Mariano, to Prague to teach ESL for at least a year or two
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm mariano:

Oh cool! Was there for about a week back in '93, really loved it. Beautiful city.
  2:39pm Cliff:

Wild Neil, if you though PTV was disturbing and shocking, then you really, really, really do NOT want to listen to any Throbbing Gristle ever ;)
Avatar 2:40pm Todd-o-phonic:

Given a lot of the selections today I wonder if Power Pop Pop Pop is on hold! Not that that's a bad thing...
  2:40pm Cliff:

Mariano, everybody tells me that when I say I'm moving there and gets excited it for me. It seems to be this magical fairy-tale city full of castles and pubs and good beer and Bavarian babes and whatnot :D
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Hoboken Jack:

Just a thought: They could make some $$ by recutting that as "So-Citrus-In-This" as Sonny Vincent & Sprite
  2:43pm Cliff:

Also the cost of living is a lot cheaper than most major American cities. You can rent an apartment in the city anywhere from $300-800 depending on how fancy you want, and they have excellent public transportation so it's not a problem to be living outside the city center
Avatar 2:43pm Wild Neil:

@Cliff-thanks for the heads up about TG...I would never seek it out...have a good time in Prague! Hope you get a chance to check out Poland too...it is AWESOME from my pov anyway....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm mariano:

Yeah, the Old Town Square is one of the most beautiful spots, and there's incredibly good cheap food and beer. Have a great time, that's really cool you get to spend so much time there!
Avatar 2:46pm Wild Neil:

Divining Rod-clicky star for sure! WOW...
  2:46pm Cliff:

Wild Neil, depending on how much money I make teaching English, I'll definitely want to make a visit to all of the neighboring countries at least, and also to Paris, Amsterdam, Florence, and London at some point as well. I've heard the EU has a good train system and you can get around to different cities pretty easily
  2:46pm KP:

We were in a band
  2:47pm Tommy:

This is the best song I"ve heard this year !
Avatar 2:48pm Wild Neil:

Cliff-I want to retire to Poland and teach English as a native speaker...I need to get some experience here first!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm mariano:

Those were the days, my friend... totally different song, same title!
Avatar 2:52pm Wild Neil:

Night Beats. Clicky Star!
  2:52pm johnk77:

@joeb thanks for great show
+steve mackay shoutout
check out his work w/commander cody
+moonlighters/moonliters
  2:53pm Cliff:

Wild Neil, I've heard it's better if you go take a TEFL certification course over there. There's a lot of good schools in Prague because it's easier for non-EU citizens to get work visas there, and the language schools and companies looking for English teachers are more likely to take a TEFL certification from one the local schools than from one elsewhere. You generally want to look for the ones offering Oxford CELTA or the equivalent....the TEFL industry isn't regulated at all and there's plenty of dodgy companies who will take your money and barely teach you anything practical and give you a useless certificate at the end that won't really get you hired anywhere.

Situation's a lot different in E/SE Asia though, basically all you need to do is show up there and be Caucasian, and they'll stick you in a room full of 30 kids and say, "Ok, you go teach dem Engrish now, good ruck"
Avatar 👻 2:54pm David Shortell:

Once, on some uninformed whim, I went to see Psychic TV at City Gardens. It's the only time a band bored me so much, that I left a few minutes after paying the entrance fee.
  2:55pm Cliff:

Oh it's almost 3:00 already?! Thanks for the show today, Joe! :D
