	9:56am Mark R: Once I was listening to a very experimental electronic piece on FMU--a low rumbling sort of thing. After about 5 minutes I discovered that I had inadvertently switched from radio to turntable on my amplifier and the sound was the needle playing the rubber mat on my turntable.
	9:57am Mark R: PS I think Wild Neil would really like to tell us about his exciting new stereo headphones.
	10:00am Wild Neil: @Mark R. They are Sony MD-XD100's. They are tilted inside to point directly at my earholes. They are can type and surround my ear in luscious clear sound. They were only $15 but now they go for $60 or so on Amazon and are discontinued, kinda like one of those industry-standard Technics turntables. Very happy with them compared to the old 1970's headphones that did not work...
	10:02am Mark R: These are headphones, not earbuds, right? I love a tasty set of headphones. PS on a related subject, are Dr. Dre's Beats headphones all hype, a little hype or really fine headphones (albeit overpriced).

	10:08am Parq: Here's a cheery thought. Somewhere today, a greatest-generation grandma is explaining to her teenage granddaughter that, because today is Leap Day, she's allowed to ask boys out on a date. And the granddaughter is looking at her like she is speaking Chinese.
	10:11am Mark R: Annie, I'm not an audiophile, so take this with many grains of salt, but I use my laptop as my radio, streaming whichever stations I wish (usually WFMU, of course), hooked up through a very good amplifier and some good speakers, I think it sounds great. So if you've got a laptop, all you need is a plug--maybe you don't need to buy a streaming radio player. But you might have better ears than me.

I once came home to find my toddler son playing with his metal Thomas the Tank Engine train on my turntable where I'd foolishly left a Scott Walker record. Couldn't get mad at him as I'm sure those of you with kids know that Thomas and his pals go to bed via the big train turntable. Now have a precious Scott Walker LP pristine on one side and scratched to hell on the other. Of course it's only precious cos of the memory and I wouldn't sell it at any price.

They sound great for the price and are comfortable but they are "semi-open", not fully sealed. There's a switch on mine marked "music/movie" which is some kind of bass correction
	♥ 10:20am doctorjazz: SQUEEZE!!! (I use a Squeezebox Touch for streaming, can also stream what's on your hard drive. Can be had used probably about $50. Easy to use in general, but req3uires a bit of set up, which is not that easy, at least not for me...)

	9:56am Mark R: Once I was listening to a very experimental electronic piece on FMU--a low rumbling sort of thing. After about 5 minutes I discovered that I had inadvertently switched from radio to turntable on my amplifier and the sound was the needle playing the rubber mat on my turntable.

	10:00am Wild Neil: @Mark R. They are Sony MD-XD100's. They are tilted inside to point directly at my earholes. They are can type and surround my ear in luscious clear sound. They were only $15 but now they go for $60 or so on Amazon and are discontinued, kinda like one of those industry-standard Technics turntables. Very happy with them compared to the old 1970's headphones that did not work...
	10:02am Mark R: These are headphones, not earbuds, right? I love a tasty set of headphones. PS on a related subject, are Dr. Dre's Beats headphones all hype, a little hype or really fine headphones (albeit overpriced).

	10:11am Mark R: Annie, I'm not an audiophile, so take this with many grains of salt, but I use my laptop as my radio, streaming whichever stations I wish (usually WFMU, of course), hooked up through a very good amplifier and some good speakers, I think it sounds great. So if you've got a laptop, all you need is a plug--maybe you don't need to buy a streaming radio player. But you might have better ears than me.

I once came home to find my toddler son playing with his metal Thomas the Tank Engine train on my turntable where I'd foolishly left a Scott Walker record. Couldn't get mad at him as I'm sure those of you with kids know that Thomas and his pals go to bed via the big train turntable. Now have a precious Scott Walker LP pristine on one side and scratched to hell on the other. Of course it's only precious cos of the memory and I wouldn't sell it at any price.

They sound great for the price and are comfortable but they are "semi-open", not fully sealed. There's a switch on mine marked "music/movie" which is some kind of bass correction
