Favoriting February 16, 2016: SCOTT JOHANNSSON (Ondes Positives / LARVA) on The Mask (1961)
Put the mask on now!"...or at least your 3-D glasses...when Scott Johannsson, co-owner of limited edition vinyl and cassette soundtrack label Ondes Positives Recordings and member of UK-based live score band LARVA, joins Morricone Island to discuss the "The Mask" aka "Eyes of Hell" (1961). "The Mask" is both Canada's first "horror" film and 3-D motion picture and Ondes Positives has recently released a limited double vinyl LP of Myron Schaeffer's original score (blue vinyl) along with Larva's 2013 re-score (red vinyl). The result is not that far from Bebe and Louis Barron's groundbreaking "Forbidden Planet" (1956). The album coincides with the 3-D Film Archive restoration of the film (and Kino blu-ray release) which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in Sept. 2015. Scott is also the co-host and producer of the like-minded soundtrack podcast The Damn Fine Cast with Tony Giles. http://www.ondespositives.bigcartel.com/ https://soundcloud.com/thedamnfinecast

according to imdb - After their only 35mm print of the film was deemed too brittle to be screened again, the Toronto Intermational Film Festival partnered with The 3-D Film Archive in New Jersey to restore The Mask, with the new digital print debuting at TIFF in 2015.

digging this sound.

Listener Robert:

Interesting concept, rescoring. On YouTube there's Mad Martigan's "Fixicity" in which a mashup of 2 music pieces & a video from one of them is played over mostly an unrelated video. So I guess the unrelated video can be considered rescored.
