DJ Mike Sin, filling-in for absent Michael Shelly, on WFMU Saturday morning did a brilliant bit of song sequencing. He played a new song by yet another Daptone label artist who recreates 1960s soul music with exciting accuracy. We heard “(Let’s All Do the) Chicken Switch” by the James Hunter Six. That alone is worth sharing with like-minded friends but the DJ sandwiched this song between Sam Cook and Eddie Floyd both from the 1960s. The grove was seamless. The decades that separated these records were meaningless. I was impressed.
