I just watched it. It was terrible. I won't spoil, but it's almost un-spoil-able since it was like Chris Carter cut up a bunch of scripts from the first 9 seasons of mythology episodes, threw them up in the air, and taped them together randomly. I'm sorry, I'll stop now. Looking fwd to MOTWs.

JakeGould:

One sign George Lucas is insane: When he redid the original “Star Wars” films, he said to himself, “Self! This horrible blues band that nobody likes… We need to improve that, create a new song and even stretch it out LONGER! Now that gets asses in seats!”

Jake, I'm not such an expert on Star Wars but do you think the second band could have been a sort of joke reference to the goofiness of the first band? The clip I just watched seemed pretty silly. That's how I took it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56am
Matt from Springfield:

Baroness - new to me, and quite nice...
  1:56am
JakeGould:

To me the way “Star Wars” is understandable is this: The first 1977 film was a surprise hit and a decent standalone film. Then the second film in 1980 (“The Empire Strikes Back”) was an unexpected hit… And—this is key—that film was far more deep and had character depth the first film never really had. A truly adult film that kids could enjoy… Then “Return of the Jedi” turned into a bunch of teddy bears and pandering directly to kids. And everything after those films—prequels and the new sequel—are just pandering more and more to kids.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57am
coelacanth:

rw i just wasn't interested in it as a child; and without that foundation there's no reason to waste my time on it as an adult.
...i'd go see a planet of the apes movie though!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03am
coelacanth:

Jake that's a bummer...but i suppose if i haven't seen any of them since "conquest of..." then i probably wasn't really going to see one after all!
  2:03am
JakeGould:

Sounds like the studio is a McDLT: The hot side stays hot and the cool side stays cool.
Avatar 2:05am

What the world really needs is a good "Man from Uncle" film.
Avatar 2:06am
BadGuyZero:

But I have seen "Octopussy."
Avatar 2:07am
BadGuyZero:

And "Moonraker."
  2:07am
JakeGould:

@BadGuyZero: You know what a McDLT was? A McDonalds version of the way you get burgers from a diner: Opened up with one side that has the hot stuff on 1/2 of the bun and the other that has the cold stuff (lettuce, tomatoes and onions) on the other 1/2 of the bun. But it was McDonalds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08am
coelacanth:

Jake i just looked and there was only one after "conquest..." (?) -i've only seen that and the first one and i was really young (saw conquest of in the theatre the first time around),but i liked both of them.
  2:08am
JakeGould:

@coelacanth: Age difference. I mainly saw those films on TV and the first one is the only one I cared about. I’m not into sequel sagas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09am
coelacanth:

i saw octopussy in the 80s on tv. it just blends in with other bond films i my head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15am
coelacanth:

Jake that's part of it for sure; and i'm not into milked formulas either...but i'm also not that into movies. i've always liked them, but they (and tv) were always (literally) overshadowed by music.
- i'd probably hate all those ape sequels, now that i think about it! the whole story was told in the first one.
Avatar 2:15am
BadGuyZero:

@JakeGould: I vaguely remember seeing ads on TV for the McDLT. I wouldn't even be able to guess around what year it was.

Did you watch the "Planet Of The Apes" TV series?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19am

Brasil-rock! I always dig this, esp. with the touch of bossa nova influence here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25am
coelacanth:

different version?
Avatar 2:27am
BadGuyZero:

I do like the Bond movies. I haven't seen "Spectre" yet. I don't even know if it's still playing in theaters. Some of those Roger Moore movies are lousy. But he was in my favorite Bond movie - "For Your Eyes Only" - so he's ok in my book solely because of that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28am
Matt from Springfield:

I mean I always tend to like the stuff coming from Brazil, whether Os Mutantes, Seu Jorge, bossa nova or the other varied styles. I like that the last song was acoustic and had a touch of earlier, bossa nova influence in it. That's all :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am

Burns Night?
Burns Night! It's tomorrow evening, Jan 25!
  2:35am

I only watched the “Planet of the Apes” TV series out of childhood boredom. But that said… Someone should reboot “Space: 1999” as “Space: 2999”
Avatar 2:36am
BadGuyZero:

Maybe he's related to Montgomery Burns.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37am
coelacanth:

Matt my @2:25 was about the Dylan song! ...but i'm with you all the way. i like the music and the language.
- those 2,+ Tom Zé, Arnaldo Baptista, Caetano Veloso...they also mix up the styles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39am
