My grandmother had a strong dislike of birds; she thought they were bad omens or something. (Very Old World, despite this grandparent being the only one born in the US.) Once, in her later years -- she lived into her 90s -- my mother asked me to bring gma some stamps that she'd bought for her. My mom pointed out that there were birds on the stamps, and told me not to let her get a good look at them. Well, I rolled up to grandma's, gave her the stamps, and tried to move quickly us to the kitchen. She glared at the stamps: "Is that a bird!??"

Two days ago, Jessie and I received a notice from the IRS apologizing for overcharging us by $202.85 on our 2013 taxes—and promising a refund. Yesterday, I parked in front of an assisted-living residence where I took a tour as I am considering places for my dad to move to when my mom passes. I was a little distracted and parked in a handicapped-only spot and got a ticket for $230.50.

That pretty much sums it all up, this life business.
