I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Happy Monday, Mayuko. What is in ruins?

listener james from westwood:

Afternoon, Mayuko and all! Thanks for the photo-essay on the hotel. Reminded me for some reason of the Beat Hotel, the Paris apartment building where some of the Beats and associated folks spent time writing and cross-pollinating in the 60s.

Another Mayuko Monday!

Anyone see a wallet in here?

Listener142985:

I want a doormat that says ''wellcome.'' Just to see if anyone is paying attention.

Listener142985, welcome on board! Inside the ruin looking building is this picture on playlist - an old hotel in Chinatown near Tokyo that was just demolished. I took this photo when I stayed there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm
listener james from westwood:

Makes me think of Burroughs-Wellcome, which is now probably a tiny part of some other, much huger pharma conglomerate.

Hi listener james, the Beat Hotel looks beautiful, I want to look into some more picture later. These old hotels are like treasure boxes of history and memories...

Good afternoon, folks. Does anyone play Glenn Frey (RIP) on the Drummer stream? www.glennfreyafterhours.com
  5:22pm
P-90:

Konbanwa, Mayuko! Happy to be listening live this week, i've been mostly exiled to the archives by my holiday season travels and obligations. This building in the photo seems to have a lot of atmospheric vibes.
Avatar 5:23pm
Mayuko:

Welcome on board, Ken! I saw that news this morning coming in from one of our DJs, I would assume someone must have played buncha Mott the Hoople by now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

@Mayuko - Yeah, Scott Williams just mentioned it on his show and played an Eagles 45 at 33 RPM.
Avatar 5:27pm
Mayuko:

Hello, P-90! Glad to have you tuning in live! That hotel really was very atmospheric. It's a huge bummer that it's gone.
Avatar 5:30pm
Mayuko:

Good to know that Scott is doing what DJs are responsible to do today, Ken. I'm a little too occupied to mourn for the hotel disappearance instead of playing Eagles and stuff. haha!
  5:37pm
Listener142985:

I wonder how the Eagles sounded slowed down. They were often pretty ''mellow'' to begin with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm
listener james from westwood:

Shit, this year's not letting up with the death, is it? But does any year?
Avatar 5:41pm

Yah. There's always someone dying every day every year, famous or not. We just don't know their lives.

To be honest, the only times I spent time in Yokohama was when we would visit Yokosuka for sports, or my father's work. I mostly hung out in Machida, and if I had some money, go over to Shibuya or Ginza to people watch. Although Ueno was a fun place as well.
Avatar 6:36pm
Mayuko:

Hibari Misora was born in Yokohama, and she had a bunch of Madorosu songs, it's stupid that I don't have any of her with me. But here we go again with the Madorosu songs for a bit...
Avatar 6:38pm
Mayuko:

Ah, makes sense you'd go to Yokosuka, northguineahills. I love Ueno although it's dirty and smelly. That was near my neighborhood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm
Gary:

I have lots of Hibara Misori I could float you, but I wouldn't know which tracks (if any) are Matroos-y. Didn't know she was born in Yokohama. Do you know how come her museum is in Kyoto?
  6:45pm
ディビット:

Hi, Mayuko chan.. sorry I arrived late. Great music. Did you play テレサ テンさん?
Avatar 6:46pm
Mayuko:

There is her museum in Kyoto? There's one in Tokyo too I believe. I think she's got 5 or 6 Madorosu songs. It must always say Madorosu in the titles. Or if you can catch her saying so in the lyrics... not that I wanna play more Madorosu stuff, haha! That was almost getting too crazy!
  6:48pm
Listener142985:

Close as we're going to get to an Eagles tribute right now, it appears. Close enough. Unless you have a surprise to cue up at some point.
Avatar 6:49pm

Hi David san, no Teresa Teng tonight. Man, could have been a good choice since she's got both Chinese & Japanese feeling that's perfect for Chinatown mood.

I loved what you said about Noriko Awaya singing in English for POWs. That shows empathy, and I love that. Some mistake that for compassion, but empathy is also about the good things. Empathy is what allows me to take a break from my problems and enjoy seeing random people being happy
Avatar 12:34am
Mayuko:

Yah, what she did is truly incredible, especially in those insane days when treating human beings like human beings were not normal. I'm glad you got my point of telling that story, I felt that I didn't explain it sufficiently. Speaking English and looking at an article written in Japanese at the same time is confusing!
