	7:12pm hyde: i bought some sugar hill compilation record that had rapper's delight and a bunch of other stuff on it in maybe '80 or 81. that was the first i ever heard of hip hop, then onto pe, de la soul and bdp from there. this all sounds very early 80's white guy college student as i type it out.

	8:33pm melinda: 3 Feet High was one of the 3 hip hop cassettes I had then too, it got me interested in the genre and then I didn't venture much further.
	8:34pm Dean: Well, the airwaves are a relatively scarce commodity, a factor that prompted early government regulation. The Internet, despite its origins as a government initiative, has expanded epidemically, one might say. So, even though radio stations, like ISPs and services who conduct business online, are private, they owe their legal existence to government oversight. Not so much the ISPs, etc. Long story short, that there isn't (so far) an FCC of the 'net isn't exactly arbitrary.

The Internet, despite its origins as a government initiative, has expanded epidemically, one might say. So, even though radio stations, like ISPs and services who conduct business online, are private, they owe their legal existence to government oversight. Not so much the ISPs, etc. Long story short, that there isn't (so far) an FCC of the 'net isn't exactly arbitrary.
