Avatar 10:32am ndbob:

Tho nothing wrong with skeet shooting per se - but linking it to MLK - wtf?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Doug Schulkind:

@ndbob
I think it was inadvertantly linked to the MLK "holiday." But still...

If anyone out there knows Taylor Swift, please suggest that she add finger cymbals to a tune here or there. It would help.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Jeff Golick:

Ah! Great idea, Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am Doug Schulkind:

Here's a little memorial tribute in words I wrote upon the death of Lester Bowie: wfmu.org...
Avatar 10:45am annie:

so, i have an opportunity to see mac arnold tonight in greenville at plate full of blues..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Webhamster Henry:

The good old WKCR show Musical Theatre Today used to do tribute sets to obscure musical comedy/film performers who were still living - sometimes interview them too! That show was great and a little obsessive!
  10:46am earrie:

Tributes are so entwined with death that to tribute a living person would lead to questions about an imminent death. Would naming it 'living tribute' change that? Maybe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Doug Schulkind:

You should have the blueplate special, annie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Doug Schulkind:

I broadcast a Max Roach special out of love a few months before he died. I was so grateful that it happened in that order.
  10:48am Mr C:

@Annie...Do you know of Marcus King Band?
  10:49am earrie:

And would it lead the person to stop working/trying/endeavouring to do new, better or great? 'Feh, I can't top my tributed works. I'm past my prime.' Etc.?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:49am doctorjazz:

Lester Bowie, great to hear him (really distinctive sound, heard a few notes before I checked and knew..)
Avatar 10:50am annie:

they really have that, doug? the website is hard to navigate..my friend who just moved there has a birthday thing...and, no, MrC... do tell...
  10:53am Mr C:

Greenville. S.C.?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am Doug Schulkind:

@earrie
Any artist worthy of such a living tribute would, I'm willing to bet, be immune from that kind of external gratification/corruption. They would make the art they have to make, regardless. Of course, I am an eternal optimist.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:54am listener james from westwood:

@earrie: It has not been unheard of for FMU DJs to have to say, either on air or in their chats based on the response there, that the person whose music they've just given a mini-tribute to is not actually dead.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:56am Brian in UK:

  11:01am earrie:
