Pretty far out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am
coelacanth:

yeah it's not great.
...it's Bowie's fault! i was close to getting to bed when i got the word. and,worse- i was nursing a hangover all day yesterday after not enough sleep the night before.
(WAH!)
...if you'd asked me a week ago how i'd be affected when David Bowie dies, i would not have suspected it to be this profound.
Avatar 12:18am

ouch, haven't slept well in a couple days now, look forward to demain's un-disturbable day.

$BAGS- and he changed his/her name; and his/her show is good.

I was never a hardcore Bowie fan like some people. but he definitely left his mark in important ways

i am by no means a bowie hardcore, just a casual lover. wasn't expecting to be slammed by his death, but i was, and am.
Avatar 12:21am
Alejandroool:

what jj said. listening to the sound of his singing voice when he's really belting it out takes on a whole other feeling now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26am
coelacanth:

Alej - i totally dug albums 3,4,5,&6 then with some reservation until low & heroes, which i loved; then gave him 3 chances and gave up on him with let's dance.
...but now i think i've missed some solid releases here and there.
  12:29am
daveB from Oakland:

Damn you for doing such a great show, Jesse :) :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am
coelacanth:

- yeah, and then friday i heard some of his new album and loved it immediately.
maybe that has something to do with why i'm hit so hard. i suddenly, after decades of not caring, was psyched about a Bowie album.

Seems as if he'd been listening to some Scott Walker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am
coelacanth:

through all the years of not liking his contrived hit songs on commercial radio, and not liking many of his masks, i still read interviews and such; and i should say- the more i learned the more i respected and liked him...so i was very happy when i heard blackstar and it sounds so honest and pure and passionate, because that's what i always wanted from him- having grown to like him as a person.
  12:48am
daveB from Oakland:

there was definitely some mutual admiration between Scott Walker and Bowie. Look up "1997 Scott Walker birthday greeting to David Bowie". Bowie gets pretty emotional about it.

?:

totally identify with bowie's death hitting you harder than expected - i've always liked and appreciated him and returned to some favorites of mine from him in a comfortable way, but never delved deep into his discography like I did with Lou Reed - but now suddenly I'm hit much harder by his death than I expected, in a distant but very real way - harder than I was by Lou Reed's death, in fact - somehow it seems more impossible that Bowie could die. In retrospect he felt kind of foundational - he's the guest room in my house that I only used occasionally but that allowed an occasional intimacy which I took for granted. Now it's like, when friends visit, they're gonna have to not drink too much and leave by 10pm because that guest room is gone..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53am
jj.:

+1 to everything you just said.

Moon:

Hi Jesse from Oberlin - great show tonight!
  1:00am
JakeGould:

To me, David Bowie dying was weird because… The man charted his whole career perfectly… He timed and choreographed so much in what he did… And then he not only dies a few days after his last album is released… But also a few days after his birthday? I mean… Shit. That is… Shit. Really? Think about that? That’s like a bricklayer dying after the last brick on a building is laid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01am
coelacanth:

ha! yeah the guest room's gone. what happened, it just popped off the house? right, it seems impossible.
...when i first read the news, my reaction was to think it's a hoax!..a Paul McCartney!
...but,no.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07am
coelacanth:

Jake,it's like, "okay,it's done.it sounds good and it's been released. now i may die."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08am
coelacanth:

i dig this Yonatan Gat.
  1:08am
JakeGould:

@coelacanth: Pretty much. That is what “creeps” me out a bit. I’m sad he’s gone but when timing like that happens. Yeesssh. I start to want to look at star charts and such.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15am
coelacanth:

i'm open to a lot of things; but the power of the human mind, the mind-body relationship, and the "6th sense", seems to me the most powerful tool we have.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17am
coelacanth:

...but there could be physiological explanations too.

...or he's just as extraordinary as he always seemed!
Avatar 1:19am
Alejandroool:

Unknowable, as this Guardian piece puts it
Avatar 1:26am
Alejandroool:

didn't know the story behind Bowie's eyes... So his friend George Underwood punched him in the eye fighting over a girl, left him with the permanently dilated pupil. they stayed friends and he did the artwork for Ziggy Stardust & Hunky Dory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34am
coelacanth:

ha! it's the least he could do right?!
