	♥ 1:17pm coelacanth: i'd get that album just for "...king" & "military madness"; but there are other good songs too.
	♥ 1:18pm Rich in Washington: I just recently found a new wavy single by local TV news person Margie Boulé. It's tres magnifique!
	1:20pm Tony Coulter: Would love to hear it! That was one fun things about moving to the opposite coast: lots of new weird local records to discover.
	♥ 1:22pm Rich in Washington: I tend to buy any self-produced or short-run looking vanity record whenever I see them, wherever I go. You just never know. Many of them are too good to be bad to be of any good. We might be the only people on earth who bring a record up the the register and say "I sure hope this is bad!"
	♥ 1:23pm Rich in Washington: OR at least unique. That's not to say that it has to be 'bad'.
	1:24pm Tony Coulter: I've got rows and rows of the stuff. We should trade bad records.
	1:24pm MrFab: Ha! yes, those professional-sounding vanity records are a disappointment. These things go in waves. Moog albums I used to buy for 50 cents go for $50 now.
	♥ 1:26pm coelacanth: both the local record stores here have "local" sections. i was informed no one ever buys any of it. our town has a substantial section on bandcamp and i buy lots of sound from it, so i looked in the stores, but sure enough nothing looked interesting. (at least not for >$3.)
	♥ 1:29pm Rich in Washington: @coelacanth: thriftstores, esp. corporate charity ones, seem to have picked up on the resurgence of records, so their pricing of 3+ makes buying weird records on a whim seem less attractive - it sort of kills that exploratory spirit.
	1:30pm Tony Coulter: @ MrFab: On the other hand, Exotica records that used to be $30 have dropped back down to $5. It's just like the stock market.
	♥ 1:31pm Rich in Washington: I find the best weird records in really out-of-the-way rural or coastal thrift shops. It's rare, but when you do find something, it is usually pretty unique

	♥ 1:32pm Rich in Washington: @Tony, @Fab: the youngsters buying records now seem to have no interest in the genres of yore. Was noting with amusement that on Reddit/vinyl, there was this thread that Exotica as a genre is 'hella racist'.
	♥ 1:33pm Rich in Washington: I blame those Incredibly Strange music books for the 90s/00s Exotica bubble.
	1:35pm MrFab: What vinyl are the youngsters buying, then? Just new releases? Because 60s garage and psych, 70s funk, and 80s SST-type indie records have skyrocketed in value (which is why I'm selling 'em!)
	1:37pm Tony Coulter: @ MrFab: I think there definitely is a hardcore youngster segment lusting after the genres you mention. Others want mid-period Fleetwood Mac or Led Zeppelin. Or, if they're really cutting edge, they want Paul Simon's "Graceland" on cassette.
	♥ 1:38pm coelacanth: there used to be a store, the "a.r.c. thrift"store in nj (plainfield?) that had a medium-size room full of records. 69¢each. i must've bought hundreds of albums from there; but unfortunately didn't then know what i think i know now.
	1:41pm Tony Coulter: Plainfield was probably a great place to find interesting records, just because the distributor Jem was located there.
	♥ 1:42pm Rich in Washington: @MrFab: that's true, too. I've put out some rare-ish 80s New Wave or Punk records, of the popular variety, and had them go pretty fast. But in my experience with the thrift digging scene, it seems like youngsters get really excited by some really mundane, relatively common records.
	1:42pm Tony Coulter: Or wait -- they were in South Plainfield. is that a different place?
	1:46pm Cecile: I think the kids when they are starting out, want the slightly obscure stuff. The more they continue digging, the more they'll wan the obscurities. Back in the day, I was excited to find the new Tom Petty album used!
	♥ 1:47pm coelacanth: south plainfield is right next to plainfield, but i don't recall there being much stuff there from them. (i do remember trying to get a job at jem,to no avail)
	♥ 1:50pm coelacanth: mostly what i got in that store was 60s rock and 60s-70s r&b. i'm happy i got all that, but i'd bet there were tons of jewels in there that i didn't recognise then.

	1:54pm MrFab: So how should we be investing? I'm assuming those Barry Manilow records won't go up, but I do see obscure power-pop/new wave, and '80s college rock in the bargain bins. And I'm surprised how plentiful and cheap Cramps-ian early rock records are. Might pay to be bullish on those.

	♥ 1:58pm coelacanth: i do have,i figure, maybe 1000 albums to get rid of; but most of those 60s' rock and about 1/2 the r&b i don't want to part with...although for the right sum i'd transfer it to cd and let it go.

	2:13pm Carmichael: I visited a thrift shop in Ashland a few weeks ago, as they had a few rows of old records. Found some neat oddball LPs for about a buck apiece.

	♥ 2:16pm Rich in Washington: I can't for the life of me figure out why I got into Chrome so late in life. Had I heard them when I was a kid, looking for records weirder than Devo, Pink Floyd, etc. They would've totally rocked my world back then.

	2:17pm Cecile: their early records were damn hard to find. I didn't get into them until the late 80s.
	♥ 2:19pm Rich in Washington: I had some of them from Ralph comps but for some reason, I never fully grok'd them until the last ten years or so, but the reissues have definitely made my love for them go critical mass.

	♥ 1:22pm Rich in Washington: I tend to buy any self-produced or short-run looking vanity record whenever I see them, wherever I go. You just never know. Many of them are too good to be bad to be of any good. We might be the only people on earth who bring a record up the the register and say "I sure hope this is bad!"

	1:24pm MrFab: Ha! yes, those professional-sounding vanity records are a disappointment. These things go in waves. Moog albums I used to buy for 50 cents go for $50 now.
	♥ 1:26pm coelacanth: both the local record stores here have "local" sections. i was informed no one ever buys any of it. our town has a substantial section on bandcamp and i buy lots of sound from it, so i looked in the stores, but sure enough nothing looked interesting. (at least not for >$3.)
	♥ 1:29pm Rich in Washington: @coelacanth: thriftstores, esp. corporate charity ones, seem to have picked up on the resurgence of records, so their pricing of 3+ makes buying weird records on a whim seem less attractive - it sort of kills that exploratory spirit.

	1:37pm Tony Coulter: @ MrFab: I think there definitely is a hardcore youngster segment lusting after the genres you mention. Others want mid-period Fleetwood Mac or Led Zeppelin. Or, if they're really cutting edge, they want Paul Simon's "Graceland" on cassette.
	♥ 1:38pm coelacanth: there used to be a store, the "a.r.c. thrift"store in nj (plainfield?) that had a medium-size room full of records. 69¢each. i must've bought hundreds of albums from there; but unfortunately didn't then know what i think i know now.

	♥ 1:42pm Rich in Washington: @MrFab: that's true, too. I've put out some rare-ish 80s New Wave or Punk records, of the popular variety, and had them go pretty fast. But in my experience with the thrift digging scene, it seems like youngsters get really excited by some really mundane, relatively common records.

	1:46pm Cecile: I think the kids when they are starting out, want the slightly obscure stuff. The more they continue digging, the more they'll wan the obscurities. Back in the day, I was excited to find the new Tom Petty album used!
