Hi, everybody! I'm DJ'ing a popcorn night later in Brooklyn, hence lotsa midtempo on the show tonight.

i heard a really cool popcorn tune earlier in the week, and the store had it on 45 ... and on 78! i think it was from 1958. i don't remember the name of the song or the artist. happy to help! (but, it really was great! i have to call the guy and get the name...)

i know very very little about the popcorn sound/45 scene (outside of the 15 minute documentary on youtube) but what i've heard i really like, and hope to learn more...

Hey FW. Verrrry nice set. Needed clarification on popcorn. So many sub-genres. Hope all is well & I get to see you soon.

Mama's got a new handbag.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

First set was all popcorn; later sets had some popcorn. For deep immersion in the popcorn sound, I highly recommend seeking out DJ Lucien's Youtube channel. Look for DJLucien01.

Uncle Michael:

You know what would be a cool Youtube channel? One that offered up examples of the dances...Camel Walk, Four Corners, Cissy Strut, Shingaling, etc. I have no idea what most of them look like. And I mean the ones that actually caught on...not just the obscure failures.

Mr C:

The other Little Sonny on Revilot...never heard until the FW show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

The Little Sonny is highly reminiscent of Johnny Otis's Country Girl.

Peter:

Wow. The Fabulous Peps version of Gypsy Woman is Booker T in 1966 (about between vol 6 and vol 7) but is not on Stax... and they later played it at the Chit Chat Lounge with the Funk Brothers? (easy internet search on soulful detroit/mike hanks story).

Kind of a different arrangement, short but stretched at the same time.
