Hey, Uncle Michael (aka Tootsie Pop), and thatpat, welcome.
Avatar 12:03pm Perri:

Hello and Happy Thursday!
Avatar 12:03pm Michael:

Hey now Charlie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Charlie:

Helloo, Michael! And Perri, nice to see you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm listener james from westwood:

How-DEE! Always nice to hear Combustible Edison.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 12:05pm doctorjazz:

Hey all, was going to try to post first, but I got busy...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Charlie:

Hey there, James!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Charlie:

@doctorjazz: as Steven Wright says: The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm listener james from westwood:

Am I wrong in recalling a Wm. S. Burroughs piece, perhaps part of this overall album, titled "Sharkey's Night"? A WSB–LA collab sounds like a natural.
  12:10pm mauri:

hei charlie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Charlie:

Well hello, mauri!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Charlie:

@james -- this is the first song, the one w burroughs is the last song.
Avatar 12:12pm Lewis:

@ listener james… that makes sense. I have been trying to work out the reference and the connection to WSB rings a bell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Parq:

LJ fr W: There was a parallel to the track, a sort of answer song, called Sharkey's Night. The track Charlie played is the first track on the album (her second full length LP) and "Night" ended it. There's also a live performance of "Night", with a filtered-voice Laurie doing the narration, on the album "Home of the Brave", which is taken from a movie of the same name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Brian in UK:

Hello Charlie, guess it's back to Akron for Rachel nowadays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Brian in UK:

Akron, sounds like a man-made fibre.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Parq:

Charlie, thanks for the link to Sandy Skoglund's stuff. Really wild.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm listener james from westwood:

Thanks, all! I knew I heard such a track on FMU ages ago (and one DJ used a loop from it IIRC for talkovers). All hail the mass mind!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Charlie:

Howdy, Lewis, Parq, Brian in UK!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Charlie:

@Parq -- Her stuff is amazing, right? Listener bobdoesthings pointed me to her work a few playlists ago.
Avatar 12:24pm ndbob:

afternoon Charlie and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Charlie:

Hello ndbob! Come in and join the throng.
Avatar 12:38pm Lewis:

Fifth Dimension seem to be enjoying (?) a minor comeback - at least in the fmuniverse...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Charlie:

The 5thD have so many great songs that were not hits (in addition to the great songs that were hits). I'm a big fan. And they did so many great songs by Laura Nyro, and Jimmy Webb (like that one).
Avatar 12:44pm Lewis:

yeah - I am enjoying it. My Dad was a big fan so I ignored them, but with time comes the ability to rethink… (My dad also hated Elvis until he heard this great singer on the radio… )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm listener james from westwood:

Oh, man, I'll bet PLU or EvConCom could mix that YWCA PSA up but good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Charlie:

Yup, James.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Charlie:

@Lewis -- It's funny how people can hate things they know nothing about.

Here's an article from todays paper for Enya fans
www.independent.co.uk...
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 1:09pm doctorjazz:

Blossom Dearie is a great singer, doesn't get enough notice these days (Monica turned me on to her).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Charlie:

@Brian -- coincidence: I was just reading recently about Enya, her wealth, her castle, and her stalkers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Charlie:

drjazz -- Monica, and Trouble too loves some Blossom (me too).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Parq:

I first heard of Blossom as a joke (in the 60s, Mad Magazine proposed an album for the easily perturbed, "Blossom Dearie Sings For the Leery"), and then heard her in the 70s on the old WNEW-AM. But I've heard her more on FMU than every other source combined, and yes, Monica has hipped me to many of Miss Dearie's particularly great cuts.
Avatar 1:15pm ndbob:

right Charlie re Marilyn
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm listener james from westwood:

Lonely Town, on the same bus route as Lonesome Town. Who rides this bus? Only the lonely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm listener james from westwood:

First heard Dearie through Schoolhouse Rock!, first had a name put to her vocals by the fun 91!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Uncle Michael:

Blossom's is the fist voice you hear on my show every Friday. I'm proud of that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Charlie:

lol James
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Brian in UK:

@james twinned with The Town Without Pitney (sorry Pity)

Hello BDNland. Already great show ramped up even higher now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Charlie:

@James -- that would be Figure Eight (great song).
Hello there Dave in Vermont and Kevin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm KevinfromBayRidge:

@UM, I think the first description was fitting. Starts your show off with a punch!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Charlie:

the velvet fist in the iron glove?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Uncle Michael:

There is a rose in the fisted glove.
Avatar 1:34pm Roberto:

I listened to this opening track over and over in the spring of '94.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Charlie:

Uncle Michael -- when I was a kid, I thought that line was, "and there's a road in the distance, love"
Avatar 1:35pm Roberto:

I kept having to replay it to make sure it was actually as amazing as it seemed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Charlie:

@Roberto -- I listened to this whole album over and over when it came out.
  1:36pm Santos L Halper:

Me too Roberto; and the rest of em. Perfection
  1:39pm Ike:

Hi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Uncle Michael:

I'm sure I didn't have any idea hat that mushmouth Stills was singing when I was a kid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Charlie:

well hello Santos Halper and Ike!!!
Avatar 1:47pm Carmichael:

Hi Charlie and people. 'Scuse me while I kiss this guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Charlie:

"There's a glove in a dishpan, glug"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Parq:

Charlie, I thought that about the Steve Stills song too. I also thought it was a cheating song -- that the protagonist "can't be with the one" he loved because he was geographically separated from her.
Avatar 1:50pm Roberto:

I recall you played this Akiko in '03. Instant infatuation on my part!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Charlie:

Parq -- I do know this: The Isley Brothers do a great cover of that song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Charlie:

Roberto -- I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it. I've played it many times over the years. Keep coming back to it.
Avatar 1:52pm Roberto:

Keep keeping coming back to it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Parq:

Charlie, you know Aretha's version from "Filmore West", yeh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Jeff Golick:

Ooof missed Tammi. Ah, well. Hi there.
  1:58pm Santos L Halper:
