Evening, Doug and all!
  6:03pm Dean:

Read "Harmony triumphing..." too quickly as "Harumphing over discord."
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:03pm listener james from westwood:

Casablanca, IIRC?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:03pm listener james from westwood:

Yes!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Doug Schulkind:

Harumphing Over at Dischord sounds like inside story at a a beloved record label.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:05pm listener james from westwood:

Some of the extras singing the anthem in this scene had escaped the Reich and were not faking their tears.
Avatar 6:06pm annie:

that scene always made my face wet.. very wet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Doug Schulkind:

Did not know that, James. Out of respect, I am giving your comment a moment of silence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Doug Schulkind:

The wonderful Louis Sclavis on sax/bass clarinet on this LP.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Doug Schulkind:

Not to break your hearts any further out there, but apparently Bobby Jindal is suspending his campaign.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Rich in Washington:

YAY! The GOP clown car is getting a bit lighter but still going in circles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Doug Schulkind:

Madame Magny co-wrote this number with the trumpeter Jean Mereu.

Greetings, Gary Rich in Washington coelacanth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Doug Schulkind:

My guiding principle in selecting a Colette Magny song for today's show was to choose the longest one possible.
Avatar 6:18pm Cacahuète:

Qoui? Pas des cacahuetes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm Gary:

I can C I have some Collete Magny research 2 B doin

Oh Gary, much delight awaits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Mike East:

My wife requested I buy some French records a couple weeks ago. Rare instance where she's actually encouraging me to spend our money and shelf space on records, so I jumped at the opportunity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Doug Schulkind:

Wife orders husband to buy records. This is heaven.
Avatar 6:36pm annie:

Mike East, you have a brother?

A rough translation of "Comme à la Radio"

It will be quite
As to the radio

It will be nothing
Nothing but the music

It will be nothing
Nothing but words words words

As to the radio
It will not disturb
That does not prevent him from playing cards
It will not prevent sleeping on the highway
It will not stop talking about money

Do not be afraid
It will be quite
As to the radio

It will be nothing
Just to make noise

Silence is atrocious
Something is atrocious also

Between the two is the radio
Just a little noise
To fill the silence
Just a little noise

Do not be afraid
It will be quite
As there was radio

At this moment, thousands of cats will crash into
roads
At that minute, an alcoholic doctor swears above
body of a young girl and it will say "it does not suit me
snapping fingers between the bitch "
At this minute, five old in a public garden
will begin the question of whether it is twenty or
less five
At this minute thousands and thousands of people
think that life is horrible and weeping
At that moment, two policemen come in an ambulance
And shall cast into the river a young man wounded
the head
At that moment a French ... will be glad to have
found work

It's cold in the world
It begins to learn

And there are fires that light up in certain
places because it's too cold
Translator, translate

But do not be afraid
We know what it's like radio

It can not be happening nothing
Nothing can be material
It is nothing
It was nothing

Just to make noise
Just music
Just Words words words words

Just a little noise
Just a little noise
Like A Radio
  6:50pm David:

Any French reggae tonight?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Doug Schulkind:

Only room for one more tune. So, regrettably, no.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm Doug Schulkind:

Any out there remember my dear WFMU colleague Raymond Franks? This Fontaine number was the opening theme for his radio show. Continue to rest in peace, Ray.
  6:54pm David:

Nice variety.. good show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Gary:

I starred every song, and not out of sympathy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Doug Schulkind:

Thank you, David. I am pleased you enjoyed it!

@Gary
Keep that star ready for the next one...
Avatar 6:57pm ndbob:

excellent show Doug!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:58pm listener james from westwood:

I absolutely remember Ray! Always think of him when I hear that cut. His show exposed me to a vital slice of early/mid-90s hip-hop I wouldn't have heard otherwise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm Doug Schulkind:

Not sure I can take any more than an hour without become blubbering, ndbob.

@Listener James
You dear old-timer, you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm Gary:

Aw man, I just saw this Moondog CD at Academy but didn't pick it up
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:00pm listener james from westwood:

Many thanks, Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm coelacanth:

(yes i remember Ray Franks.)

...Thank you Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm Doug Schulkind:

Much much love to you all. Stay safe, happy and, as Dan the Immigrant (speaking of WFMU old-timers) would say, creative!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04pm coelacanth:

(...and i have several cassette tapes of "the immigrant"'s shows.)
