Ahoy, me buddies! b'casting today from one corner of Jim Price's very gnarly sofa. There are stains and smoke-stinks

Hiya Scott and listeners.

I like this French prog angle, Scott - thanks- was just listening to Jeff Conklins archive playing weird French stuff I didn't know, pretty neat

Due to the length of this song, methinks Scott had to use the bathroom ...

Hi Scott and friends! Good cover, I can hear the Sparks origin in here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm
Scott Williams:

Joe B, my clearest recollection of that (great) day is Neko Case laying on the floor, commanding bandmates to walk on her back. Great cover!

heya Scott! sad to report it appears PF Sloan has left the building, according to Jimmy Webb's FB page! : (

I just heard, V Priceless; sad news indeed. A bunch of FMUers had great things to say about his set at Ponderosa last month

First Allen Toussaint, now PF Sloan. What a week.

I was about to say Greg - good thing we got P.F. for the Ponderosa Stomp last month. Similarly I saw Allen at NOLA's JazzFest last year, and it was a good thing I did.

@ Scott - that's right, he just performed there! Plus Michael Shelley's interview w/him from Sept. '14 was great!

@steve: Just came here at just the right time now. So I hope the game I have issues with that I made that other people liked that I’m not too hot on “Let’s Give Them This” helped speed you on your way. Also, always impressed by your mega-walks!

Rev. Turnip Druid:

Well spoken, sir (re: walking away from social media)...
As it happens, FB did the job for me. Thanks to the use-your-real-name robot goon-squads. I'm just headstrong enough to refuse. Taking it as my sacred cue to toss FB in the bin. Finally.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
Scott Williams:

Good on ya, Rev! Wish I had your fortitude
  4:06pm
JakeGould:

The Facebook flag stuff should never have happened. It’s ridiculous. Placing users in a scenario where they can only be “loyal” to one bunch of colors. At the end of the day I’m feeling that Facebook will just use the data collected by that whole process to—I don’t know—sell the user profile pic branding process to an advertiser.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm
Scott Williams:

JakeGould, yep.
Avatar 4:08pm

whats to dislike about Lets Give Them This? isnt it exactly the sort of creative improv prompt that the show begs for?

Much as 'Support the Troops' coded for (passive-aggressively enforced) 'Support the Wars or Be Ostracized By All Society'
...on the other hand - of course we display empathy w/ & support of Paris.

ive been doing FB less and less (and it was really hard at first since i work from home by myself 3 days a week and used to leave it open all day) and i feel like im seeing the world with new eyes. also i agree with Jake about the free data mining.
  4:10pm
JakeGould:

@steve: I felt it was a wee bit too convoluted. But Jo Firestone made it work. So kudos! Also I have a few other games I sent her way that I feel are tentpole ideas. My personal pets. My ideas are like pets or children to me. So I love them even if they piss me off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Faceborg having the automatic thing of Parisian friends checking themselves off as 'safe' was quite handy. Of course it didn't happen for Beirut or anywhere...unwhite...

Yesterday I stayed fully offline til 10:30pm, when I realized I hadn't ground my teeth all day!
Avatar 🧩 Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

@RRN63: Increasingly I think that will be the case. In Haiti in '10 there was some kind of app to check on people there (might have been by an individual, maybe supported by Google?) But the big corps didn't take the initiative then to start that up.
Avatar 4:15pm
Chris from DC:

I have a problem with FB constantly trying to get users to pay for more people to be able to see band/organization pages. Almost dumped it over that.
Avatar 🧩 Swag For Life Member 4:16pm
Matt from Springfield:

As for me the FS is my FB! My account on FB is merely a placeholder to spy on others. Also birthday alerts! Since I got my smartphone that is the one handy thing about that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

It's the same problem as Net Neutrality: It's obviously become a Public Utility - yet it's all Private Biz owned by 1%ers...
Avatar 🧩 Swag For Life Member 4:17pm

@Chris: That was even 7 years ago, I think the "Zombie" and other such games people kept pinging me with and wanting to install this ?able 3rd party software? Um, nope.

JakeGould:

Facebook isn’t bad. A lot of the complaints you guys are airing remind me of “Get off the Internet!” or even “Get off the BBS!” things I heard years ago. I’m numb to people telling me what I should be sad about and how I should be sad about them. But in the case of Facebook, this whole “Change your profile picture or else!” mentality is fairly toxic and fascist. That’s my issue.

..as for perpetual campaign season tooth-grinding...they deregulated election money so they can saturate us w/ negative campaigning & turn us off from Voting.
Then again, I don't feel obligated to politely disagree w/ everybody. Many I agree w/ turn me off w/ stating the obvious/commonplace/overstated w/ no style. Aesthetics. Kind of like my over-commenting here...

@RRN63: The good news (or perhaps "silver lining") is that all this unregulated cash, without rules, doesn't buy one dominance. Though it sure buys a helluva lotta noise. But as I avoid "noise" anyway, I get on without it fine!

@Matt: Again: If they turn people off from Voting generally, it's money well-spent to them, I think. & it works, as Voter turnout shows.
