evening Doug and everyone!

Hate to un-Ravel, but happy for Ennio!
  6:05pm Dean:

So, speaking of Ravel, there is a new-ish Silicon Valley start-up devoted to online legal research, Ravel Law. The founders, young, super smart guys, intended a pronunciation like the verb, not the composer. When I first met them, I assumed the reverse, and I was curious to learn the connection. They had not heard of Maurice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Doug Schulkind:

Ga devening, dbpob! listener james! Dean! Maurice!
Avatar 6:05pm ndbob:

wow Dean
Avatar 6:07pm redkayak:

Hi all - looking forward to some tunes before my class starts :)
Avatar 6:09pm Mayuko:

Good evening Doug and everyone! Great gif image.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Doug Schulkind:

Welcome welcome, Mayuko! Great to have you on board, redkayak!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Charlie:

Hi Doug, all, and happy birthday, Ennio, mi fratello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Doug Schulkind:

Hallo Charlie! Was this track on your past marathon premium or another from this soundtrack?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Doug Schulkind:

Searching through WFMU's playlists, I'm not sure anyone has played more Morricone than Charlie!
Avatar 6:14pm Peter Nelson:

Yo musicos
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm Doug Schulkind:

That was quite a bravura show, Mr. Neson. And it even got better after it was over! Gravity defying!
  6:16pm P-90:

BRILLIANT gif of Ennio! Buon compleanno, Maestro!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Charlie:

Well, I used to use Morricone a lot as bed music. Although I also played a lot of tracks in sets.
Avatar 6:17pm northguineahills:

So much material to work w/! Morricone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Charlie:

Wow, didn't know there was a Chet-Ennio connection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Doug Schulkind:

Hey, I applied every skill I had in stealing that GIF!

Squeezing it into a single hour is almost physically painful, northguineahills. But then I listen, and it's okay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Doug Schulkind:

Baker recorded the tracks for this LP in Rome. In the studio, he sang four additional tracks with Ennio and an orchestra. They were never released until the 2003 reissue of Chet Is Back!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Artie Haywire:

All my wires, re-raveled. Thanks, Ennio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Doug Schulkind:

Artie! Artie! Artie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Doug Schulkind:

One star of this film Queimada, chose it and gave up a chance at starring in Butch Cassisy and the Sundance Kid: Marlon Brando.
Avatar 6:31pm ndbob:

a litlte bit like "Oh Happy Day"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Doug Schulkind:

Nice association, ndbob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Jeff Golick:

More props for that gif, Doug. Oh, and the show's pretty cool, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Doug Schulkind:

There appears to be no fighting the GIFification of radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Jeff Golick:

I thought it was the gamification of gifification that was the problem.
  6:35pm Dean:

Who influenced whom? Zappa->Morricone or the other way? Or was there a third independent causal factor?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Doug Schulkind:

No, the gentrification of... Oh never mind.

@Dean
The answer may seem obvious, but I would bet good money that Mr. Morricone's ears were open to influences of all kinds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Charlie:

I have a tale of Morricone obsession -- related to a similar track from that L'Assoluto Naturale st -- that began when I started listening to WFMU back around 1994. Maybe I'll tell it on Thursday, inspired by your show, Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Doug Schulkind:

It's a date, Charlie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Charlie:

All right, time for supper; catch y'all later. Thanks for the Ennio.

GIVE THE DRUMMER RADIO PROGRAMMING ALERT...
Jesse "the pasta fazool fool" Kaminsky is up next with Kaminsky Kamoutsky, here on the Drummer Stream. Show begins at 7pm sharp: wfmu.org...
  6:43pm P-90:

Of course we must also consider that Ennio and Zappa had both heard some of the same influences themselves along the way, and recognized those common influences in each other's work....and then influenced each other.
Just sayin, it's complicated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Doug Schulkind:

Absolutely reasonable observation, P-90. I think both men would be honored to be so associated.
Avatar 6:50pm Peter Nelson:

Only 1 hour of Ennio? It's a crime!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Jeff Golick:

That was pretty freakin' cinematic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Mike East:

@Peter Nelson...tune in to the main stream in about ten minutes and you may be delighted.
  6:52pm Dean:

Is the title of that album from which the tarentella was played a homonym for the Marseilleise? Or am I maconshiddup?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Mike East:

www.wfmu.org...
Avatar 6:52pm northguineahills:

This is my favorite Morricone!
Avatar 6:53pm northguineahills:

Found it on a Morricone vinyl comp in 2000.
Avatar 6:56pm ndbob:

excellent show Doug!
Avatar 6:56pm Peter Nelson:

@Mike. I would, but then I'd miss Jesse....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Doug Schulkind:

@Mike East
Heh heh, didn't even know. Looks like you get ANOTHER hour of Morricone after this over on the WFMU mothership.

@Dean
Does the guy on the poster look like a French revolutionary to you?

en.wikipedia.org...

YES!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm Mike East:

fair enough, Peter. We've all got our choices to make. Enjoyed your show earlier today. Too busy working to comment, but hooray for that dark side remix!
  6:59pm Dean:

So, kinda like that joke with the punch line, "Jose, can you see..."?
Avatar 6:59pm northguineahills:

So much goodness! Thanks Doug!
Avatar 7:01pm Peter Nelson:

@Mike. Ta. A poplular selection, that Dark Side. The guilty pleasure of Floyd.
  7:01pm P-90:

Grazie mille, Senor Schulkind!
