A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

if i need to offer an explanation for today's show:
Cancer (June 22–July 22)

If we were regular old astrologists, Cancer, we’d tell you that you have carte blanche this month to bend the rules, behave amorally, and do some things that might be perceived as unjust. But because we’re art astrologists, we’re going to use a phrase we throw around a lot in HAWUSA (Horoscope Art Writers, USA chapter) meetings: you have Robert Ryman (aka carte blanche, since he only makes white painting) to be a little rash and irresponsible in November, because otherwise you’re going to get trampled (emotionally and professionally).

I love the art horoscopes of which you speak...Libra one is so racy:

Now is a good time to be promiscuous, Libra, just know that your flings, experiments, and nocturnal adventures, though fun, will not result in anything particularly profound or enduring. Try doing it on the floor, or against the wall, or in public. Could it work suspended from the ceiling? Have you considered bringing in more people to collaborate with? Why not incorporate video? You should indulge all your impulses this month, artistically and otherwise.

Richard Hell’s “I Dreamed I Was a Very Clean Tramp” is a decent read. Except for one thing: Every woman he meets, discusses or admires in it gets some elaborate sentence or two on their breasts. I think it’s his running gag.

Also reading Art Donovan’s “Fatso” and he talks about goofy things and eating food just like you expect a human caricature to.

I was going to suggest Morandi after I finished feeding the dog and got back to a computer...

Noted still-life photographer and SUNY Purchase faculty member Jan Groover was a big Morandi fan. I got into Morandi the back way. looking for that compositional influence on Groover's formally-composed, subtly-lit and usually platinum/palladium-printed photos.

I recommend looking up both artists.

I wish @jake, but then you wouldn't get all of the details. It's a long slog but really rewarding. FYI: I taught one year at Purchase (when I was a child): I drove up to Purchase with Jan Groover. She was an amazing person. Her retrospective at MoMA (in early 90's) was great. She left the Bowery and America for France because she couldn't stand it (she said this in the car). This was before the second Bush!
