I'm guessing The Peanuts is not the same group that includes Snoopy and Woodstock? ;)

I'll find you a pic of The Peanuts in a bit, Kelley!

excellent show Gary - catch the rest on the archive!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm
Gary:

Night, Bob! Kelley, if I'm not mistaken, The Peanuts are the women who sing the Mothra song in Gozilla vs Mothra
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm
Gary:

Also: They're twins, so maybe that is why they are The Peanuts (two peanuts in a pod usually)?
Avatar 8:01pm
hyde:

unsurprisingly, i first saw the Peanuts in Mothra on the Creature Double Feature
Avatar 8:02pm
hyde:

haha, i see that just came up. they are also in ghidorah, the three headed monster

Avatar 8:16pm
Peter Nelson:

b.t.w. Dean, did you get the Yes OK?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
Gary:

Dean, she does a ghastly thrilling version of Gasoline Alley
Avatar 8:17pm
Peter Nelson:

I thought it sounded a bit like'I Shall Be Released'
  8:18pm
Dean:

Peter: The Yes? No. Not yet, but that's because I'm undecided about where to host it. But I am reading Bill Bruford's auto-bio.

Gary: Say, what?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm
Gary:

Yes, I think Peter you're right ... I should see if I can figure out which track it is on Discogs and then do a Google translation
  8:20pm
Jill B.:

Good Evening Gary and Kelley, and all the rest of the faithful Bodega Pop listeners!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm

Song means Yuunagi's Time ... so, not sure ... hmm ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
Gary:

Hi Mom!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
Gary:

Oh, it looks like I might have to play the gasoline alley cover ... hmm ... lemme see how I can squeeze it in ... :)
  8:25pm
Dean:

It would be shamefully appreciated.

Who here is playing "piano" (that's Japanese for "piano") and trumpet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
Gary:

Lemme look that up, Dean
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm
Gary:

Piano – Yosuke Yamashita; Trumpet – Toshinori Kondo
  8:32pm
Dean:

This is simply priceless. I was across the room from my source, a Chromebook, and I tell you, the guitar intro sounded like a shamisen.

Toshinori Kondo, well there you go. I remember hearing him live with Brotzmann's Tentet long ago. I was fixated on his posture and the weird emanations from the electronic doo-dads he'd affixed to his horn.
  8:33pm
Dean:

I'm guessing she doesn't cover "Hot Legs"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
Gary:

LOL, no hot legs ... but a few other things we'll hear a bit later :)
Avatar 8:37pm
Peter Nelson:

And now we have The Ballad Of John And Yoko!
  8:40pm
Dean:

"Maboroshi no Onna-tachi" roughly translates, "Don't bogart that joint."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm
listener james from westwood:

Do not attack the DJ, kitty!
  8:44pm
Kelley J.:

Lost contact for a bit there with connectivity issues! Now I have to run. Enjoyed the show, Gary! Keep up the awesome music!

Great show! For more Japanese oldies listen to KVRX Austin Thursday nights (9 or 10pm)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm

Thanks for the tip, David -- they play Japanese oldies every week at that time?
Avatar 8:59pm

Talking of Peanuts....well, 2 hours ago:)...I played Petite Fleur on my very first radio show. They did great covers. I'd love to hear more Peanuts tonight.
  9:22pm
Dean:

ZZ Top? "Kage O Shitaite" translates roughly as, "La Grange."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm
Gary:

For you, Peter, I will squeeze somethin in ... lemme go dig around
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm
coelacanth:

Dean- How roughly?!
  9:24pm

coelacanth: Give or take, more or less, approximately, quite roughly.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm

Good evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm
Īke:

Good evening! I started a new job today. Unlike my last place, there are actual humans there. Lots of them. I hope I can keep this job, but if they discover that I'm actually a cat disguised as a human, I might get kicked out of there. I'm going to have to hide my office litter box REALLY well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm
Gary:

Mike and Ike!
Avatar 9:36pm
Peter Nelson:

Does 'maru' mean something like 'edition' or 'issue'? I've seen it used in catalogue numbers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm
coelacanth:

can you Really (<italics) hide a litterbox?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm
Gary:

Yamashita Yosuke on piano there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm

Sounds legit, Peter
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm
Gary:

Are y'all okay going over about 3 minutes?
  9:52pm
Dean:

I would *love* to hear her sing Jerome Kern. (Tip: Kiri Te Kanawa's Kern disk is gorgeous.)
  9:52pm
Dave in Cleveland:

Hey, ido you know if this program is available in pod form on TuneIn app? This 7-10pm is a bad time for me. -__-
  9:53pm
Jill B.:

Gary, your great Uncle Charlie used to paly this on his piano in his house in Daly City. The music would drift up to the main floor through the heater floor vents. Every time I hear this it reminds me of time spent with him.
  9:54pm
Dick:

There is simply no one with a voice Mako's....
  9:54pm
Dean:

Hey, nice unintended tribute to Alan Toussaint.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm
Gary:

Dave in Cleveland, if you download the WFMU app you can store shows on your ipod! Or you can always listen in the archives -- mine usually go up about an hour or two after the show is over. Other shows vary, but all go up into archives and all are available via the app (where they can be saved and listened to whenever u like)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm
Gary:

Did I ever meet Charlie, Mom? I feel like i might have
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm
coelacanth:

well, "asahi" is a VERY rough translation!

House of the Rising Sun? Really?

Asahi. "House of the Happy Hour."

No, you never did. He passed away right about the tine that Auntie Rita did. By then they had been divorced for a few years. He was a dear, dear man. He taught me how to swim in the Stanislaus river at Big Trees State Park!
