The legendary and obscure Arthur Miles was an American cowboy
singer who, apparently, also independently developed his own
overtone singing style. He also sang in normal voice, yodeled,
and played guitar. Almost nothing is know of him or his influences,
but the dates of his recordings, believed to be about 1928-29, make
him one of the earliest overtone singers ever recorded.

	7:04pm Mister Dobalina: You've must have read my mind because as soon as I saw the title of your show, I instantly associated it with the doc of Paul Pena discovering vocal fry, but I couldn't remember his name, it's been years. And low & behold I look at the title of the song and there it was, confirmed!

	7:06pm Mister Dobalina: I used to work in copyright, and I worked on getting publishing clearance for material that was coming out. I came across Paul Pena because he wrote a song or two that was famous. This is how I came across his doc.

	🍳 7:21pm Ken From Hyde Park: I think I can make a fundamental note, but no idea how to do the overtones. Is it similar to what a person does when playing an Australian didgeridoo?
	7:26pm Listener Robert: Ken, the hard part is convincing yourself that someone else can hear the overtone rather than its being just a vibration in your head, which is how it seemed to me when I tried many yrs. ago. I guess you'd have to record yourself to be sure.
	7:27pm Dan Bodah: @Ken -- there are instructional videos on YT. It is similar to digeridoo playing. You have to use mouth/jaw/tongue positions to cancel out and augment the multitude of overtones to let through just the desired ones. I am planning to take it up.
