  11:43am RecordJunkie:

I love the sound of the Oud, it's bass register is so warm. Great comp maestro Doug!

@Brian Great, Ali Akbar Muradi is a well respected Kurd musician. I do agree with you, the tones and scales are very exotic and obscure to western listeners, it takes time to get the hang of it. I would advise you to check out Mohammad-Reza Shajarian, Kayhan Kalhor Hossein Alizâdeh for a more central Persian feel of music.

Avatar 11:54am George from Bristol UK:

Just popped out but now I'm back. I missed the comments about Raw 45's from Morocco, which I have on LP, and Iranian music. The Sonati style is my favourite - I just inherited 32 cassettes from a German woman who lived in Tehran in 70's / 80's - all wonderful, all in perfect condition. More recently I am very impressed by Mohsen Namjoo's "Sonati Ha".

@George That's great, what a precious inheritance. Sonati is basically Iran's traditional music. Mohsen Namjoo has a very modern take on Sonati mixed with tidbits of humor and contemporary themes. He's an avant-garde artist.
