Wednesday is payday, tweet me @bnrsstlfr and I'll happily contribute again. The app is really buggy tonight ...

What's going on with the app?

I keep getting "streaming error" or long periods of buffering.

And like that the app is running smoothly, it must have wanted me to hear this awesome Hills track.

Hey Jeff, listening & enjoying. Thanks man.

Was just listening to some Yusef Lateef Eastern Sounds before coming over here and finding the Shepp hits somewhere near the same spot.

Good morning @all. I love the bird sounds! :)

I wondered if you had put a LDP record on underneath the Shepp -- that synth was so well integrated and somewhat unexpected in the piece. Excellent.
Avatar 4:07am
Jeff Conklin:

Ha. Definitely not, Dan ;)

Dan Bodah:

Someone on Discogs says in comments that the title track of the Shepp record includes "romulus franceschini, donald F.cooper (electronics)" -- and I see Burrell credited on electric piano, which maybe didn't make those crazy sounds back in 1970-71? Not sure if this commenter knows of what he speaks, but it'd be worth exploring. (Apparently they weren't credited on the liners.)
Avatar 4:15am
Jeff Conklin:

Yeah, it doesn't seem likely it was Burrell. Maybe it was the producer?

My Android phone updated to Lollipop recently. I've found the wifi connection to be less robust than before. When the streaming app acts flaky, I've found that turning the phone's wifi off and on again helps sometimes. Another thing that helps is to close down the app and restart it.

Sounds like Eno/Fripp

Ironically, I haven't had any trouble since you mentioned it on-air.

My Kindle uses a version of the android app, and it always works just fine, but, since it doesn't allow me to log in as me, I haven't fallen in love with it.

I don't believe the Android app works with the Galaxy S6. Not the app's fault though. I'm writing an app for another station, and encountered the problem myself.

Maaan, try making some aluminum foil rabbit ears on that thing.

Aw thanks, Tomas! Glad to be of service.

Has anybody ACTUALLY used a PONO?

The earliest use of Frippertronics I can find is in the song "2 HB" on the first Roxy Music album. Although I suspect it goes back earlier to Terry Riley or Stephen Reich.

I left San Francisco in 2013. My landlord was happy to see me go, because I was paying about $1100 a month for a "2 1/2 bedroom", after 17 years of rent control. I'm sure, after looking at the Craigslist posts, that the rent was at least tripled or quadrupled when I left. BTW, the apartment only had one real bedroom.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16am
pacific standard simon:

The others were the living room, and an enclosed porch, which actually were used as shared rentals in the apartment below us.

That's crazy, Simon. I'm holding on in Brooklyn by a thread....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23am

Part of me wishes I was still holding on there, as a point of pride, but the place was falling apart at the seams, and I'm sure they were about to offer us a buyout anyway.

Did he say, "Take it, Jesus"? I'd love to hear a baseball player say that when he was up to bat.

I can understand how Brewer & Shipley were never going to be all that hip after their big hit, but I still wish they could have been, anyway. Bet a lot of people my age would feel the same way.

Ha, Simon. That's why you need (slightly) younger guys around like me to hear them in a new context...

There's a street soprano sax player here who can't find the melody to "Harlem Nocturne"' with both hands, but it's entertaining to listen to him try.
