Hey folks, silently schilling for the good people of WFMU to keep the fires going here for a few more months. People may remember that back in the 60s childrens show host Soupy Sales was once suspended for asking his young television viewers to send him "little green pieces of paper" taken from their parents' wallets. You don't have to answer to your Mum or Dad! HELP GET ME SUSPENDED!!!! Send them green papers with the nice pictures of Billy McKinley, Ulysses.S. Grant, and Benny Franklin with the BIG numbers on 'em to MY show Zzzzzzero Hour!

and thanks Bill, another one for the ages...
@Linda: ultimately the Soupy thing was an off-the-cuff gag about feeling put-upon for not being given the day off, and it turned into a public relations stunt that increased the show's visibility and ratings. it was a very hip show, Sales was a Jazz fan and worked a lot of hip bee-bop into the show, and a lot of hipster humor aimed at adults. Sinatra was among his fans and surprise celebrity guests, and gave him a comedy record contract on his label. He was a real sweet guy and it came across on his show. I miss him.
