Favoriting October 14, 2015: Son Of The Return Of MAYHEM IN THE PM!

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

It's my second show of Crunch Time, WFMU's Silent Fundraiser and Mascot Contest, and I've put together a special show to remind you of how awesome WFMU is (not to mention my show in particular! right?!), and hopefully to motivate you to pledge.

Tonight it's the eagerly awaited return of Mayhem In The PM! Yes, it's another three hours of nothing but power-pop, post-punk, new wave and punk records (yes, RECORDS) from 1977ish through 1982, presented in a Top 40 style just like I used to do on WNYU's New Afternoon Show* a long long time ago. You'll hear some of your old favorites and some others that'll become new faves instantly!

Now, because this is a SILENT fundraiser I won't be talking about it much at all during my show which means I'm depending on the written word to convince you to PLEASE PLEDGE! This is the time of year when the money we raised during our 2015 fundraising marathon starts to dry up, and the 2016 marathon is still several long months away, so any help you can offer would be amazing.

If you've already pledged, THANK YOU! Your support is greatly appreciated. If not,
P L E A S E   P L E D G E   N O W !

Stay tuned for more special shows this month, and of course please take a moment to Like The Evan "Funk" Davies Show on Facebook and follow me on Twitter! Thank you.!

*I really recommend reading this article to get a better understanding of the inspiration for tonight's show.

This “Klacto” song’s title sounds like rectal to me. Sorry.

haha, I'll try to push that Molly Hatchet right out of your head, Dave! (Except for "Lady Luck," that song's cool.)

Glad you're enjoying the show cheri and everyone else!

Julie, damn! I had hoped you might be listening when I played that Cale record. Thanks for pledging nonetheless!

Julie M Brooklyn:

My pleasure. Anything to keep Station Dictator Ken at bay.

Cheri is one of the saddest dudes on here.
  11:37pm
tinkle bear:

efd, you are my hero!

@tinkle bear, perhaps you'll enjoy the next song from the poor man's human league.
  11:41pm
Jim Allen:

RICH man's Human League! Anyway, wow the original 7 inch version sounds so much better than the one they re-recorded for their EP with real drums (by Simon Phillips no less!).
  11:42pm
Julie M Brooklyn:

Pardon my ignorance, but why does this sound so much like Gary Numan?
  11:42pm
tinkle bear:

efd, as they say, it's like you know me.
(although i don't understand why they don't call it poor-man's Sparks. but whatever.)
  11:43pm
JakeGould:

@JulieMBrooklyn: Because Gary Numan was a thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm
efd:

or poor man's Gary Numan? Julie, I think that was just the sound at the time.
  11:43pm
Linda Lee:

amazing .. in retrospect .. how much of this stuff sounds alike. but not a problem!
  11:46pm
Julie M Brooklyn:

Yeah, well, I'm a lightweight, unless it's John Cale or Jonathan Richman. That's not a hint, efd....
  11:49pm
tinkle bear:

yeah, i dunno.
sparks and human league (+ gang of four) were somehow what struck me as politically pertinent at the time.
but yeah, i guess it's the eye of the beholder.
yay, music.

Why does a lot of the material sound the same? It's kind of like the Kinks' album title: Give the People What They Want.

Ah, APB at the Roxy. It's a blur.

Thanks for the neat time-travel show, EFD. Between the throw-downs, disco celebrations, tributes to old friends, etc. throughout the year, I need to make up an EFD calendar to keep track of it all. Pledge for all that hard work, folks!

snow?! Yikes, I don't think I'm ready for that yet.

Love the Mood Six, different mix to the original and LP versions? Extra verse and castanets.
