βrian, you'll get a master's thesis out of this easy.
  10:49am Jeff g.:

The festival of new trumpet (FONT) music is going on now in NYC. That Fuigo would fit right in.
Avatar 10:49am Cecile:

Minne means water, so it's not an oxymoron in its original language, but is a pretty nifty bi-lingual oxymoron.

@Jeff G
You are a FONT of information today. Literally.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am Parq:

My granddaddy dated Dakota Sue. She played a mean game of pinochle.
  11:01am Dean:

Had to look up "oxymoron" in OED to explore etymology. "oxy-" is a combining form tending to mean acidic, sour, pungent. "moron" had a cross-reference to Limbaugh, Rush. Just kidding. But "moron" in "oxymoron" means exactly what you think it means. From the Greek μωρός: dull, stupid, foolish. I love the synaesthetic effect of combining a reference to taste (sour vinegar) with a measure of intelligence. An oxymoron is a badly prepared stew of concepts that sour together.
Avatar 🥁 11:04am βrian:

Gods Bless the OED, yo. I'm looking for an audio copy to keep me company on road trips. No luck so far. (Who should read it, I wonder?)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am From the Internet::

In Denmark most people learn British English, as does the rest of Europe, and all advertisments are also in British English, so Danes speaking English will almost always pronounce it COPE-en-haygen, in spite of that being the form that bears the least resemblence to the Danish. Most Danes I know will tell you the American form sounds strange, and I agree. But my American friends think the British form sounds strange. It all depends on what you're used to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Doug Schulkind:

Nice catch, Parq. I was using "if" in the old if/then hypothesis statement, but I forgot the "then."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am Doug Schulkind:

If only he knew how much I LOVE to be corrected by listeners. It keeps me humble.
  11:08am Dean:

An audio OED?! That'd be weird, but in a good way. You could listen to any of the various histories of the work, or to the biographies of its creators. Maybe, though, you should listen to the works of Thomas Browne or Charles Doughty's "Travels in Arabia Deserta," if an aural immersion in the sounds of the English language is what you want, βrian.

That's "homble," Doug.
