How do, Charlie and all! Let's get Busy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm listener james from westwood:

That animation is pretty damned clever. And labor intensive!
Avatar 12:04pm Michael:

Hey now Charlie and all - checking in from lovely Santa Fe.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Charlie:

Hello ßrian and James! Yes, let's get busy doing nothing.
Hello Michael and Peter!
Avatar 12:05pm Michael:

Peter are you in Rockport now? I live in that sleepy burg.
Avatar 12:06pm Mayuko:

Hello Charlie and everyone! Glad to be home today and I can tune in your show live.
Avatar 12:06pm Peter Nelson:

@ Michael. Just on holiday. Lovely place.
Avatar 12:07pm Michael:

I live aboiut a block from the fantastic performance space there. Hope the weather is ok - I'm out west this week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Charlie:

Yes, Peter, I dig Qulfus. (and guess where I found it:)
Yes, James, the other animations are great too, if you get a chance to read up on his project too. (Elliot Schulz, first entry on playlist)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Charlie:

and Hi Bob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Charlie:

@Michael -- say hi to NM for me please, haven't been there in years, but love to visit :)
Avatar 12:10pm Michael:

The restaurants in our town leave a lot to be desired. Head to Gloucester for better food and real drink.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 12:10pm doctorjazz:

Hi all, this Zorn is fabulous, haven't heard it in quite a while. (his major label days)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Gaylord Fields:

Hi, Chaz! Thanks for providing the sort of transportation that you don't need to use a MetroCard to get on board.
Avatar 12:11pm Michael:

It is so great Charlie. Off to Taos in about 30 minutes then up to the Denver area so I'll have to check in on the archives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Charlie:

Hi doctorjazz, and Gaylord! Now it's a freeform party.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Mike East:

I walked around my town for about an hour last Sunday searching for great cheesecake, but only came up with mediocre cheesecake. But my wife appreciated the effort
Avatar 12:13pm Peter Nelson:

Homemade cheesecake is hard to beat. I thought while we were here in the US we might find something good, but so far not...
Avatar 12:14pm Peter Nelson:

Pretty good for doughnuts, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Mike East:

Massachusetts - that's pie country up there, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Parq:

Love that Fripp/Roche track. Always kind of wondered who it's about.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Uncle Michael:

Brooklyn is known for its cheesecake, just sayin
Avatar 12:28pm northguineahills:

I've never understood the hoopla about Juniors' cheesecake.
Avatar 12:28pm Lewis:

@Charlie - was it you that played Suzy Roche last week?
Avatar 12:29pm Kurt Gottschalk:

vocals by Gisberg on the Gary Lucas teack
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Parq:

Just doing a little research on "Mary" - lyrics written by Joanna Walton, who was Fripp's squeeze. Turns out she died in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103. Whew.
Avatar 12:30pm ndbob:

rotifers are second only to rodents Charlie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Charlie:

Ah, thank you Kurt! (and hi!)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Parq:

Kurt, welcome back to NY/NJ. Digging your avatar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Charlie:

Kurt, that must be why I played it.
Avatar 12:42pm Mister Dobalina:

Is this from the same live performance where she performs, 'Ain't Got No' ?
Avatar 12:44pm Kurt Gottschalk:

charlie, @ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Charlie:

@Mister Dobalina: Not sure. I just stumbled upon that live version on YouTube the other day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Dominick:

nice
  1:04pm John:

It sounds like The Platters on 78 RPM.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm listener james from westwood:

Well, turtles are indeed known for being rather slow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Mike East:

nice, james :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Charlie:

haha, yes james!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Charlie:

I love the way slowing down records brings out so many little details of the arrangement, because different frequencies stand out.
Avatar 1:09pm ndbob:

right Charlie
  1:10pm Listening Out There:

Genial host: Is the John Moran tune actually written by Charlie Manson? He did put out an album or two. Supposedly tried out to be one of The Monkees, I've read...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Mike East:

I was listening to an old tape I recorded many years ago in a player that played at a faster speed and thought it sounded great. Then I put it in the normal speed tape deck and it was garbage....speeding things up hides the mistakes...slowing it down reveals all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Charlie:

Listening Out There -- some of the words from that piece were by Manson, the rest by John Moran. The music is entirely John Moran. It's from an opera based on Manson and the "family."
  1:15pm Listening Out There:

Thanks much. I'm not familiar with the opera. Good to hear a piece of it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Charlie:

It's on Point Music, which was Philip Glass's label, which explains the modern subject matter of the opera...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Parq:

Hearing the Turtles' hits nowadays - at any speed - makes me smile all the more because it reminds me of their big and well-deserved court victory over Sirius. As a nice side benefit, because they sued under the name of their corporation, Flo & Eddie Inc., the court's written decision is full of references to what "Flo and Eddie argue".
  1:19pm Listening Out There:

Charlie...makes sense. Thx again. FYI, I just finished reading Glass's memoir "Words Without Music." It was more interesting that I thought it would be. Includes a couple short bits on Moondog, his old roommate.
Avatar 1:22pm Lewis:

covering the Silver Jews - pretty cool...
Avatar 1:28pm Lewis:

or is it simply Silver Jews?…
  1:32pm John:

Is this with the Wulu Bunun?
Avatar 1:34pm βrian:

Couldn't find the lyrics online. Go figure.
Avatar 1:36pm Mayuko:

ohh! so that was that CD you told me! haven't found it in the fmu library yet, sounded pretty good!
Avatar 1:37pm northguineahills:

Probably my favorite Beach Boys song....
Avatar 1:38pm northguineahills:

That, and I love the Surf's Up album cover....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Charlie:

@Mayuko -- well, it was in the library. maybe moved to basement? ask Brian if you can't find it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Gaylord Fields:

On this album, I go back and forth between this and Long Promised Road. It amazes me that Carl, perhaps the BBs' best singer, sang lead on almost nothing pre-1967.
Avatar 1:41pm Mayuko:

Will do, Charlie. That library is made for tall people and Asian music section is close to the ceiling in the shelf. I will bring my binocular with me next week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Charlie:

@Mayuko -- bring a fireman's ladder :) (It's probably under "D" though)
  1:48pm frenchee:

Nice set, Mr. Lewis. very uplifting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Uncle Michael:

Man, this or the Helen Reddy version...I can't decide.

Maybe the Georgie Flame gets into the running too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Uncle Michael:

*Fame
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Charlie:

@Gaylord -- Maybe it's because Carl was so young at the time? What's his first lead, "Girl Don't Tell Me"? He did sound good then...
  1:51pm Listening Out There:

Irwin played an Up With People track yesterday. Now, Friends of Distinction. Must be something in the water...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Charlie:

Up With Friends
Avatar 1:52pm northguineahills:

Fully agree, Gaylord.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Charlie:

UM: Georgie Flame would be a good name.
  1:52pm Listening Out There:

Nothing of Distinction
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Uncle Michael:

And his Blue Fames?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Charlie:

haha, I like that, Listening -- new show name
Avatar 1:56pm Mayuko:

@Charlie Ah, you're right! I should have looked into the D shelf! it's pretty embarrassing already that I need to use a ladder to look into stuff on the TABLE there. But I might indeed have to ask Brian to equip the library with a fireman's ladder.
Avatar 1:56pm ndbob:

excellent show Charlie!
  1:57pm Listening Out There:

*Aznavour
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Mike East:

get some stilts, Mayuko! It'll make fmu look even more like a circus
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm listener james from westwood:

Always a pleasure, Chaz! Thanks!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Charlie:

Thanks all, see you next time!
Avatar 2:00pm Mayuko:

haha, Mike East, that's a good idea! Thank you, Charlie!
  2:01pm Listening Out There:

Thx again!
Avatar 2:01pm Inner Ear Detour:

Lovely show, Charlie. Aznavour, a great finish!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Charlie:

Thanks, David, and a late hello/goodbye!
Avatar 2:08pm northguineahills:

It was a blast, thanks Charlie!
