Doug, did I hear about this from you.

www.amazon.co.uk...

Anyway - seems like a relevant link for this set...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am Doug Schulkind:

@AndrewC
That is a stellar collection. And entirely apt for the current proceedings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Doug Schulkind:

Quiet crowd today. Our singer just slew a nekkid man. That oughta waken you up a bit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Alex In Illinois:

Wow. I am most familiar with Fairport convention's version of this song.
  9:50am Stealth Oats:

this can't end well
Avatar 9:50am northguineahills:

@Alex: Me too. I went through a stage a while back where I listened to as many versions of Matty Groves as I could.
Avatar 🥁 9:50am duke:

This is a great version of Matty Grove. I also really like the Fairport Convention version
Avatar 9:51am glenn:

fairport's version is perfect for three minutes. unfortunately, they then veer off into that fiddle / guitar thingy, which is also very good, but should have been a song unto itself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am Alex In Illinois:

@Glenn: the recoding I was most familiar with sounded to me like a live concert version (I taped it off a radio show), so when they veered off into that fiddle-guitar part, I thought they actually were going into another number.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Doug Schulkind:

Greetings, Alex in Illinois and yowza, Stealth Oats!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Parq:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Doug Schulkind:

@Uncle Michael
Is a fog of tsuris anything like the Shroud of Turin?
Avatar 11:33am ndbob:

@Doug Yes, but with Yiddish writing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am Jeff Golick:

I'd kill for a toaster pastry about now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am coelacanth:

good morning (still) Doug and Drummers
Avatar 11:37am glenn:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am Doug Schulkind:

Hey there, coelacanth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am coelacanth:

where does one get a good toaster pastry nowadays?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Jeff Golick:

I ride pretty hard for these: www.opensky.com...
Avatar 11:40am Carmichael:

@coelacanth: from Little Debbie, perhaps?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Uncle Michael:

no, glenn
  11:41am Mr C:

Doug...Do you think Dolly Parton is a completely undervalued pop icon? an odd juxtaposition...her writing talents and original style have always been obscured by everything else..my opinion..
Avatar 11:42am Carmichael:

Never heard this Maxine Brown. I thought I heard all of her stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am coelacanth:

okay those look good!
Avatar 11:43am glenn:

i'm just a goy. what do i know?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Doug Schulkind:

@Mr C
Despite her place in the pop firmament, I do think Parton is tremendously undervalued. She is a hugely significant songwriter.
Avatar 11:44am Carmichael:

LITERALLY obscured, Mr. C ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Alex In Illinois:

If Iris Dement were to earn a PhD or MD while studying in Italy, then would she become Dr. Demento?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Doug Schulkind:

Is the artist who comes right before her Iris Cement?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am coelacanth:

Ha! she'd have fun with that one,too,with her audiences!
Avatar 11:48am still b/p:

I know people, including musicians, who've always respected Dolly's musical and songwriting talents. The easy caricaturing, which Dolly surely helped with, is just standard-recipe cultural numb-skating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Uncle Michael:

SEE-ment.
  11:50am Mr C:

Great Philly soul, courtesy of Otis Redding! McFadden + Whitehead...all time favorite
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Doug Schulkind:

Yeah, still b/p. Dolly did what she felt she had to do, and you can't argue with success. But her abundant brilliance has always been overshadowed by the external trappings.
Avatar 11:53am ndbob:

@Doug exactly re Dolly
Avatar 11:54am still b/p:

In Dolly's case, by magically current listener comment coincidence, the particular cultural numb-skating could be called Pop-Tarting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Uncle Michael:

I think Dolly puts being a successful entertainer ahead of being an artist. I think she has a sense of humor about her persona. I think she's had the career she wanted.
  11:56am Mr C:

No doubt Uncle Mike, no doubt..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Doug Schulkind:

GIVE THE DRUMMER RADIO PROGRAMMING ALERT...
Speaking of having the career he always wanted, Uncle Michael is here to ENTERTAIN you: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Uncle Michael:

Avatar 11:58am ndbob:
