- Some early Priest struck me w/ how fast it was how early. Are they generally credited w/ being Speed Metal pioneers? Who else might be?

I like both bands, I'm just a skosh more on Iron Maiden's side since they wrote a song celebrating True Yoopers called Trooper. The lyrics read like a love letter to da UP.

Rabbit: I think Maiden pioneered that chugga-chugga guitar/bass riffing that became such a bit part of thrash/speed metal, largely due to Steve (not Phil!) Harris's galloping bass style. You can really hear it on The Trooper.

Cecile: I'm a huge fan of Ballard, but if the early apocalypse stuff doesn't work on you, I'd suggest The Unlimited Dream Company -- it's got the weird human-nature quotient, but is beautiful in places, as well. Very mature & balanced work. Or so I thought.
