It does seem strange that Zero was a controversial concept. If I have 2 apples and eat 1, I have 1 apple. Then if I eat that, I have..... no apples. That's easy to understand. Maybe it's weird to give a number to something that doesn't exist, but when you're dealing with quantities sooner or later you will have no more of something, and you have to represent that somehow. It's just a quantity like any other when you're doing your inventory.
