gee, you could adapt this sentence to multiple purposes by substituting "slavery" for... "The existence of slavery in this country brands your republicanism as a sham, your humanity as a base pretense, and your Christianity as a lie."

Avatar 9:17am ndbob:

A great CD overall
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am Doug Schulkind:

The cool thing is that there is probably little thematic difference between the subjects of these ditties and the soul ballads coming up at the end of today's show.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am Hugo:

May I request anything from Tanzania/Zanzibar? That's where I'm heading tomorrow!
Avatar 9:39am still b/p:

I was using a little hand-held digital recorder for something the other day, and a quick review of other forgotten files on it found Coward singing Mad Dogs and Englishmen. I also forget why that particular low-quality device would have figured into my acquisition or temporary playback purposes for the song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am Gary:

It's nice to see you relaxing your "standard's" to maintain band name integrity
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Doug Schulkind:

Merry Isthmus to you, βrian!

Wow, Hugo! Are there any sharks in Zanzibar?

Noël Coward's singing is sublime.

We try to remain relaxe'd at all times, Gary.
Avatar 9:44am still b/p:

I'd mentioned a friend's Ocracoke visit in May, and how I'd given her a wee carved bone man to take for some improvised ritual...sending my own talisman on a little vacation. Well, she had a ritual burning of journals. And she burned the wee bone man. "Burnin' the Bone Man on Ocracoke" is a song you could compose while beach-sittin'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Doug Schulkind:

Two people died during my last vacation to Ocracoke: Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Yikes!
Avatar 9:47am Sarah N:

Avatar 9:50am Sarah N:

Oh Lordy Doug! Fancy them being on vacation in Ocracoke too! What are the odds?
Avatar 🥁 9:50am βrian:

I tried to buy tickets to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan when he visited the Detroit area. Tickets were gone in a flash.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Doug Schulkind:

The sharks got 'em, Sarah N.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Doug Schulkind:

I saw Nusrat once, but I forget where. Possible the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Or should I say Nusic?
Avatar 9:55am Sarah N:

Nusrat would have kept them well fed for days, bless him. Two fine artist's's's's's.

It is a delight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Doug Schulkind:

"O.C.T." likely is referring to Ornette Coleman Trio. Thornton's band New Art Ensemble was rehearsing at the time across the hall in the same Greenwich Village building as Ornette's trio.
