Good Wednesday to you, @listener james from westwood!
What awaits you this Fourth of July?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00am
listener james from westwood:

Not sure, actually. Sadly, I may be "that" American and go car shopping. I sicken me.

My 16-year-old car sounds like a smaller car being ground up in a Vitamix.

Ha. Well, @ljfw, it's our birthright. Might as well embrace it!

So we march day and night, by the big cooling tower,
They have the plant, but we have the power!

Jeff Golick:

Dear Gary! Hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am
Jeff Golick:

@ljfw: ready for Simpsons Time, I see...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am
Gary:

I missed the talkin's about this track -- is this sound from an actual nuclear power plant cooling tower ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am
Jeff Golick:

Re cars: I dropped my 20-yr-old vehicle off at the mechanic this morning and, on the ride over, the reason for my visit -- the dash warning "BRAKE LT CIRCUIT" -- didn't come on. Somehow it won't go well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am
Jeff Golick:

@Gary: it's a recording of a walk the artist did through a tunnel leading to an abondoned nuclear plant's cooling tower. More here: sonic-terrain.com...

Hi all, intense sounds from that tower!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am
Jeff Golick:

HI there, @doctorjazz! Yeah, creepy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am
Jeff Golick:

We promise there will be actual, y'know, "music" on this program.

This Jacob Garchik track is terrific, not familiar with him (not that it means anything, not familiar with many artists you play here, but really like this..)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am
listener james from westwood:

Hell, I love the atmospheric/sound of the world type stuff. Bethany occasionally played that sort of thing. Noise & Syrup, too, IIRC.

I seasrched Garchik on Amazon, didn't realize this album isn't out yet, but he has a great title for one that they do have, "The Heavens (The Atheist Gospel Trombone Album)", think I must get it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am
Jeff Golick:

@doctorjazz: That Heavens record is wonderful. I'm guessing you will dig.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am
Jeff Golick:

@ljfw: god bless you (and god bless Ornette Coleman).

I love theme that later becomes "Dancing in Your Head", great stuff (used that track to convince a non jazz listening music junkie he NEEDED to hear Ornette).

Jeff J:

Glad you all are digging the Ornette! This struck us as a major piece and one that hadn't been aired elsewhere. Hopefully it'll get a commercial release at some point.

Do you know who is playing guitar here?
Avatar 10:38am

Duke - It's Bern Nix and Charlie Ellerbee on the guitars.

Lovely trumpet there from Ornette. The strings in that passage were reminding me a bit of Alice Coltrane, but then I remembered OC arranged those for her!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am

Wait... by mistake I had a window open that was auto-playing a contemporary pop/R&B song and I mistakenly thought you were playing Plastic Ono Band over that. I am not right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am
Jeff Golick:

I'm pretty sure that's how Charles Ives did it.
