Well @Doug, not good. Diagnosed w squamous cell carcinoma of my left tonsil, plus spread, and on the 22nd will start a hellish 7 week radiation/chemo course of treatment that has a 50% chance of being effective. Hey there Debbie Downer! ;-)
Seriously, need good vibes from everyone to stay in the good 50%.
That is all - figured some of y'all will have extra good vibes to throw my way.

Thank you all, and @JillB you will be my inspiration. I've already survived a camera down my nose, which I thought I couldn't do, and only did because my zero-bedside manner doctor who happens to be #1 in this field at Duke threatened to refuse me care if I didn't listen to him and send me to UNC instead. BTW I am in a SUPERB local program where Duke specialists volunteer 100% free care to folks who don't quality for ACA subsidies or Medicaid (that would be me, thanks NC GOP). So I pay my usual sliding scale for primary care at local clinic, but all this mess is provided gratis by really some of best doctors anywhere. So *that* is amazing.

@Gary - You know I really really love WELL over 50% of what you play! ;-)

@JillB - yes, especially at an, erm, competitive place like Duke.
Dr Y. was first person to bluntly give me the odds - which I appreciate - and then I asked him if he was the best. He said "Yes. And I am your only hope". So, yeah, confidence is a good thing - providing it's backed up!

Also Dr Y's resident/fellow and especially his nurse (nurse John is the ONLY reason I got through camera down nose) are AMAZING, unhurried and caring and gentle and kind and sweet, so they are excellent foils to the good Dr.

@Doug - Embarrassingly, mine was not sent past my esophagus (my phobia) so I felt NOTHING. This is after me getting ridiculously histrionic with 4 clinicians and extending a 30 minute appointment into 2 hours... the nice clinicians were all "it's your body, we practice total patient consent, you don't have to do ANYTHING you don't want to do, no problem".... and then Dr Y. comes in carrying the tube and shit and was like "You do this or or I don't take of you. Get in the chair". OMG showdown at OK Corral. Eventually he won ;-)

(Laptop is dead, using phone). Holy hosers, Holly. Dayum! I hope all becomes. Tre bien. My wife just had surgery for cancer in January, and even w/ insurance, it broke the bank. She was declared cancer free in March, but she now has some curious symptoms. We'll find out more in two weeks.
