A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Morning, Trouble. My daughter is obsessed with the pop song "Trouble." I dislike it intensely, so I've decided to aurally superimpose your laugh over the chorus when I hear it. Makes it much better. Thanks.

The "Trouble" song that comes to my mind first is Cat Stevens'. Also, there's Elvis's T-R-O-U-B-L-E...

Norwegian Wood is dull as is a lot of early Murakami. Start reading the later surrealistic stuff like Wild Sheep Chase, Hard Boiled World, Kafka on the Beach, 1Q84.

I can sense the low feelings about that one , maybe I'm biased because I like his work
You might try The Wind-up Bird Chronicle
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am
Adrian in London:

I've read everything by Murakami and I must admit to having gone off him recently. The Wind-up Bird Chronicle is fantastic but 1Q84 showed him mining the same seam to diminishing effects. His work is quite adolescent, not that that's a real criticism. Actually, Undergound, the non-fiction exploration of the cult that killed people with Sarin gas on the Tokyo underground system, and the look at what it means to be an ordinary salaryman in Japan, is very good.
