Yeah, pretty summery show lined up today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm

Is the Stomp late this year? Isn't it usually in mid-spring?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm
Honky Tonk Radio Girl:

Doris Troy is a favorite for this popcorn enthusiast!
Avatar 2:09pm
Michael Shelley:

It used to be inbetween the weekends of Jazzfest - but they moved it to fall a while ago...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm
Matt F:

HTRG- Congrats on the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm
Jeff Golick:

Heyo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm
Parq:

Well at least it's not in mid-summer. July in NoLa -- bleah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm
Nate K:

Can any track from Exile be considered a deep cut? I'd say yes. With that in mind, nice deep cut.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm
Matt F:

Nate, I say yes except maybe Tumblin' Dice and Happy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm
doctorjazz:

Hi, part 2 of Thurday's GTDR in session!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm
Nate K:

I was kind of thinking of it the other way around, that they're all well-known by virtue of being on Exile, even though many are in fact deep cuts (like the one you just played). But then again, to many Stones fans, Exile is probably the "difficult" album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm
Nate K:

Exile was fave Stones for a looooong time. But it's since fallen on my personal charts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm
Jeff Golick:

I find "Undercover" to be more difficult.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm
Honky Tonk Radio Girl:

Hey thanks! Block yer ears, Monday evenings coming to a radio near you...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm
Nate K:

Undercover is a tricky one, but it's no Bridges to Babylon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm
Matt F:

Or the hits collection "Forty Winks"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm
Jeff Golick:

Ha. I defer to you both...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm
Uncle Michael:

I think the Piggies should cover all of Emotional Rescue in order. In order to clear the bar...that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
Brian in UK:

Crank it up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
Nate K:

Emotional Rescue does have "Summer Romance," which I've always loved...but not as much I love this Link Wray song on right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
Matt F:

We generally have trouble clearing the bar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm
Uncle Michael:

Lower it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm
Brian in UK:

Aftermath!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm
Brian in UK:

@Matt F that's 'cause you are always raising the bar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm
Nate K:

This is awesome! Don't know too much about the Latin Playboys. Are they always this fuzzed out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm
Matt F:

They're kinda all over the place, Nate. Can only speak for the first two albums, highly recommended.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm
Matt F:

We generally have trouble leaving the bar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm
Jeff Golick:

I think those are the only two albums (Latin Playboys). Sort of a Los Lobos offshoot, iirc.
Avatar 2:38pm
ndbob:

great song here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm
Matt F:

Indeed, Jeff. David Hidalgo & Louie Perez.
Avatar 2:38pm
ndbob:

first stax single i think
Avatar 2:39pm
Joe B:

Latin Playboys = David Hidalgo and Louie Perez of Los Lobos, producer Mitchell Froom and some other cat
Avatar 2:40pm
Joe B:

and they did only have 2 albums,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm
Uncle Michael:

I've never spent the time with the second Latin Playboys album that I should.
Avatar 2:41pm
Joe B:

last Stomp held in the spring was 2010, moved to September in 2011, not held in 2012 or 2014
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
Matt F:

Hi Joe! Hey, feel free to plug tomorrow night's event in case people here don't know about it...
Avatar 2:47pm
Joe B:

show sounding great! Town without Pitney, ha!
Avatar 2:48pm
Joe B:

Oh yeah, thanks Matt, tomorrow at Monty Hall at WFMU, we're screening the Boyce & Hart documentary 'The Guys Who Wrote 'Em.' This will be the ONLY screening on the East Coast this year. Bobby Hart will be here in person to answer questions and do a book signing after the film!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm

and anyone who saw it at the Bell House last year, director Rachel Lichtman reports this is a very different cut.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm
Jeff Golick:

Superfly: timeless. So fresh-sounding.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm
Artie Haywire:

Curtis is the best.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm
Jeff Golick:

Just noticed "Dose" also = "dos" -- ok, back to putting my head on desk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm
Matt F:

Jeff, I noticed that only just now while speaking the title out loud!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm
Jeff Golick:

I think I heard you saying it in Spanish.

You know, because of the accent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Joe B: As much as I like the song "Town Without Pitney," I prefer "The Man Who Shot Ritchie Valens."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm
Matt F:

Which strangely was not used in the movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm
Matt F:

The movie being La Bamba.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Matt F: When the biopic becomes fact, screen the biopic.
Avatar 3:17pm
Joe B:

ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
Matt F:

What's Truth Got To Do With It?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm
Gaylord Fields:

I can't fault Rod for changing the song's original title — "Petrol Mews."
Avatar 3:27pm
sugarwolf:

Do you even know what a semi-detached house in Petrol Mews costs these days?? Stupid gentrification!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm
Gaylord Fields:

@sugarwolf: If we're to believe Ray Davies, £1 million in 1990.
Avatar 3:31pm
sugarwolf:

what is that in 2015 dollars
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm
Uncle Fathead:

Trying on the name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
Dominick:

Hiya boobie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
listener james from westwood:

Hey, did someone just make a Mouse pledge?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
Parq:

Actually, I was thinking of re-naming my kitten Petrol Mews. Hell, she doesn't listen to me no matter what I call her, so what does it matter?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm
Parq:

Sugarwolf, enough to have the tax people come running after you the minute they know you've got it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
Gaylord Fields:

Bobby really should see a doctor about that. Or at the very least change his diet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
Matt F:

It affected him so badly that he had to bail on his interview with Rex, remember?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
Jeff Golick:

Fab set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
Uncle Michael:

three words: "little mincing steps"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
Nate K:

Oh, nice, the greatest performance of the greatest song ever written. Thanks, Matt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Matt F: And then he died, as those things go way too often.
Avatar 3:47pm
Melissa Jean:

oh yeah yes, gimme James Carr ANYTIME
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
doctorjazz:

Man, fabulous tune, one of the greats!
Avatar 3:48pm
ndbob:

For sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Nate K: I had the privilege of seeing James Carr perform at Tramps in 1992. That was following a point when no one knew if he'd ever have it together enough to go on a stage again. Suffice to say, he was transcendent!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm
Nate K:

The Emperor! My mind is already at the Stomp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm
Matt F:

Nate, I sure hope you can make it. It's such a blast hanging with half the FMU staff outside of their natural habitat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm
Nate K:

@Gaylord, I believe Peter Guralnick writes about that performance in Sweet Soul Music. It's quite moving if I recall. I wonder if recordings exist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm
Nate K:

It's in the works. Even Juniper might make her first trip to NOLA.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Nate K: Even during the moments when Carr was unsteady, he was still captivating. And when he was right on it, there was no better experience to have had on Earth.
Avatar 3:57pm
ndbob:

excellent show Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm
Nate K:

@Gaylord, I believe it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm
Matt F:

Thanks everybody! See you next time. Also, it's a ways away but prepare yourselves: the mighty Ted Barron will be filling in here on June 18th!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm
Gaylord Fields:

Another great Matt finish! He does not gloss over the great tunes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm
listener james from westwood:

Dug it, Matt; thanks!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm
Uncle Michael:

Show of hands. Who's wearing a Speedo?

Great show, Matt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Uncle Michael: That's why Michael Phelps don't ever take it slow.
  1:13pm
David in ATL from NJ:

That SDQ track was great!!!
