@Jeff G: I was late and got lost on Downtown going to the William Parker concert, then I got back to find my friends and got lost on the West Village that day. It was the only time I got lost during the whole trip.
@Jeff G: Thanks! Four great players on it. Those are nice players. And yeah, the rest of Manhattan is easy, but those two sections of it are hard to understand.
@Jeff: No, I went to the Acid Mothers Temple concert (no regrets, lots of noise). I went to Barbès twice, which became my favorite place, for sure. I wish I've seen more stuff on The Stone, but the Leo Smith concert I saw was also great. I've seen lots of music, but almost nothing of what I planned to.
Ah, Barbès! My white whale. I live about ten blocks away from that club, my son has been good friends with the owner's son, and I've never seen a show there!
Hey all! Have to say, haven't listened to that much "out" stuff in a while (going through a 2nd or 3rd or 4th adolescence, pop-punk binge), have to say, really enjoying it! Nice show!
Really? You need to go. Good beer and lots of music. I went to a Brecht concert, then the house African-style band, and on the other day to a project called Weird Wednesday, with home-made instruments.
And Park Slope is beautiful, by the way.
Yeah, I don't know what is that he plays, but it has the same sound of the Malian kora.
And btw, this one could fit easily into the Sublime Frequencies catalog, www.nonesuch.com...
Sorry to have missed Hamza el Din. One of my favorites, too. Heard him perform at McCabe's Guitar shop in Santa Monica. He did a lot of work on frame drum. Another great recording of his is "Lily of the Nile" on Water Lily Acoustics. Radiant sound.
