Not surprising, Ken. Exceptionally talented people tend to hang out hereabouts.

Howdy EFD. Great to talk to you at the Record Fair about Bowie. Looking forward to next year's Fair.

Awlright - 'physical speed'! : a song I reference to myself & had no idea when I heard it or who it was...now I wonder if there were other versions...

Indoctrinating the Jr. Exec. into the world of EFD tonight. So far, he's impressed.

efd can you please force some of your "inferiors", as you like to call other DJs, to play my band? we just don't get enough airtime.

I'm looking forward to Evan's record fair selections. Lots of funk on the way, I'm sure.

Ken, sorry to say there is no InterActiv™ Record Fair Listening Party this year! I was selling at the Record Fair this year (for the first time ever!) and willed myself to not spend all my profits at other tables.

for the record, fellow efd fans: i bought a record from efd's table and it was my only purchase during the record fair. including food! i didn't eat at all! i look so svelte/bloated.

“i look so svelte/bloated.” That’s the new hip thing. Cutting edge!
Avatar 9:27pm

True that Stevel. I like to modify that old Erasmus quote and use it to explain my record obsession to people. "When I get a little money I buy records; and if any is left I buy food and clothes."

will there be an errol brown tribute tonight?

Rob W:

I was recently in the Bay Area too... the 1-2 dollar bins @ Amoeba, especially their Berkeley store, are so full of interesting stuff... I can't tell you how many things I passed on (because I had so much already) that I would have instantly grabbed if I saw 'em anywhere near the same price in NY!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm
efd:

it's true Rob, I always feel like I find a lot more when I'm shopping outside of the NYC area... maybe it's a space/rent thing
  9:54pm
johnk77:

this came out yesterday?
very cool
Avatar 9:54pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

NYC record stores are intimidating! I will maintain that the best one in the world is the little record store under the used bookshop here in Ithaca.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm
efd:

that's right, johnk77! brand new!

Nate Dogg:

BB - Angry Mom Records! Yes! Got "Two Virgins" and "The Great Lost Kinks Record" there. They were not $1.
Avatar 10:00pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

Yay!!! I'm so glad someone else here has been to Angry Mom. I go there whenever I have the time and money. When I first started going to school up here they had a pretty extensive "weird" section but I've pretty much picked it clean...like an entire record of different laugh tracks (terrifying!)
Avatar The Evan "Funk" Davies Show Hellraiser 2024 Swag For Life Member 10:03pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

@Bronwyn - I think DJ MAC played an hour of laugh tracks on an April 1 show a couple of years ago.
Avatar 10:06pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

DJ MAC gets me.
  10:06pm
Nate Dogg:

Angry Mom's was quite popular in the Art Department. I don't remember the weird section, "haha," I was probably buying Beach Boy records...yeah I miss that store. That store, the $5 burritos at Viva, the antique places, and the swimming. My god, the swimming.
  10:08pm
JakeGould:

Sad news on Erroll Brown. That vocal twist when he sings, “I believe in miracles!” has always impressed me. Even as a kid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
efd:

yeah, he was really a remarkable singer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm
efd:

of course Harvey Hinsley's guitar played a pretty big part in Hot Chocolate's sound as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm
coelacanth:

aw man Errol Brown died?
that sucks.
Hi Evan Hi Funkies.

Avatar 10:34pm

Nate Dogg, I know I'm replying to a comment from half an hour ago but I took a break- anyway, I think it's funny that you mention buying Beach Boys records at Angry Mom because I just bought Love You there on Sunday. Anyway- did you go to IC? Or Cornell?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Disco era - but also just great really well-played Soul. But also great smart songs. Every one's a winner indeed.

Not sure how easy those CD reissues are to come by these days but I'd highly recommend them, especially the Cicero Park one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
efd:

so hard to pick a favorite, but if somebody held a gun to my head I think I'd have to go with this "You Could've Been A Lady."

Ding Dang that's a great album! Went to CU myself for grad school. Twas free! How bout yourself? Im back in NYC now.
Avatar 10:51pm

oh god this song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm
coelacanth:

does the double cd have enough more than the original record (american)that it's still recommended over the every 1's a winner album? (for someone who had a good-shape copy of the former?)
Avatar 10:52pm
Toddophonic:

Wow, never heard this...better than April Wine. Anyone besides me remember Earthquake's version of "Emma"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm

Guessing efd doesn't mind the drumming on Hello America either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
efd:

oh man, now I remember that Todd! I have that album!

coelacanth, personally I'd recommend the 2CD Cicero Park CD over the Every 1's reissue. A lot of extra tracks, only one or two dupes (couple of single versions of LP tracks, I think)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
