I'm pretty sure John and Nate were there -- they were driving them around everywhere, I think -- and, by the way, how awesomely lucky is that? Did you get to listen in much?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm

yeah, a bit...they were in the farthest room from my office though, so mostly just when I went to the bathroom.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm

oh i missed most of a nigerian program. i'll come back to this archive for sure!
Hi Gary Hi All!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm
Ike:

Yeah, but only briefly -- I had a lot of transit problems getting there (a sick passenger shut the trains down). And it was pretty warm out there in that parking lot. So I grabbed some kind of jackfruit-and-cabbage-based thing w/rice and scrammed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm
Gary:

Hey, Coelacanth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm
Mike East:

you think one can make it in a cab from 55th&11th to Penn Station in ten minutes? no, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm

Uh, oh. Blame Fela, Mike!
Avatar 9:34pm
northguineahills:

@Mike: Possible, not necessarily likely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm
Mike East:

yeah, I ain't gonna risk it...I'd rather not spend the money only to have to be at Penn Station for another 40 minutes when I miss my train. Looks like I'm here for the remainder!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm
Gary:

We'll try to make it worth the stay, Mike :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm
Mike East:

I know you will, Gary. Been great so far
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm
coelacanth:

Gary, have you ever done an all-zimbabwean show?
...Kenya? ...actually i'd be interested in all shows dedicated to one african region.
at one point in my life (much of the 80s) i became so disenchanted with american/english music that for years i listened to only music from other countries- & early blues. i leaned heavily on african music- especially zimbabwe and the soweto region.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm
Mike East:

that Doug Schulkind Fela tribute link is tempting, too. Gonna have to check that out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm
Gary:

I definitely could NOT do a Kenyan show any time soon (I don't have enough material), but I could do a Zimbabwean show at some point, definitely. And South African. Actually, Doug did a terrific South African show filling in for me one night: wfmu.org...
Avatar 9:48pm
northguineahills:

I'm still waiting for an all Liechtenstein show. Don't disappoint me Gary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm
coelacanth:

Thanks! i'll also check out your "all africa" show too.
-yeah i have precious little music from kenya but i totally dig what i've got.
...'same goes for ethiopia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm
Gary:

I've got a lot of Ethiopian, actually -- picked up a lot in DC over the years. I suppose I could do an Ethiopian show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm
Mike East:

@coelacanth - the Underwater Theme Park did a whole month of "touring" African music. Totally worth checking out. If I didn't have to run, I'd find a link for you.
As it is, I gotta hoof it.
Thanks for keeping me company, Gary.
Night all.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm
coelacanth:

Gary, i don't know if i just got lucky with my selections or not! in the 80s & 90s i used to peruse the shanachie records catalogue- read the descriptions/reviews and buy everything that sounded interesting. i'd drive there to pick up my booty, and they were very good to me! i spent hours there looking through the records too, like it was a record store!
...i only ended up with 2 ethiopian albums though.
they're both superb.

Thanks! (& Thanks for that link also)
ciao y'all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm
Ike:

Good stuff. Good night!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm
