WFMU had the honor of hosting an incredible concert earlier this week - a celebration of Cambodia's Golden Age of rock and roll, from the mid-60s until the Khmer Rouge literally wiped it out in 1975. And we're streaming the audio and video recording of the concert on tonight's show!

An acclaimed new film, Don't Think I've Forgotten (now playing at IFC Center in the West Village and screening around the country this spring and summer) documents this musical era for the first time.

And director John Pirozzi assembled a remarkable cast of musicians to perform together and help bring the film to life: Members of Cambodia's first guitar band, Baksey Cham Krong, and 70s hard-rockers Drakkar Band; and singers including Sinn Sethakol (singing songs of his iconic grandfather Sinn Sisamouth) and Dengue Fever's Chhom Nimol.

You're welcome Rob et al. It's a b&w film made circa 1980 and the entire film is a a classical Persian drummer-nothing else. Did a search but can't find it. The film won awards so it's odd that it'snot showing up in a search.

This is incredible. Bought five tickets, but had to miss it due to car accident injuries. I'm glad the music is still alive. I wish the singers/players/writers were here to see and hear their music being so beautifully presented. Thanks for this simulcast. The place looks great.

One thing I learned from the movie is that in the 60s the main source of western pop music influence in Cambodia was French artists (natural since Cambodia had been a French colony until 1953) - but in the 70s people heard the music played on the radio for US soldiers in Vietnam. And Santana apparently became quite popular in Cambodia, among others...
