Good afternoon, Amanda and all! Hope others emerge from the woodwork like clandestine cephalopods.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm
Amanda:

Ah, they will, in time. Trailing clouds of rage-ink no doubt!
  12:05pm
sugarwolf:

Hello!!

Amanda I have been cleaning and found a Monkees book you are welcome to have (if you don't already have it!)

P-90:

Happines is friends who find Monkees books and think of you. -Charles Schulz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
Amanda:

Welcome, welcome, welcome, one and all! Next week I guess I have to bring a flexidisc as that's the most ephemeral medium I have.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
Amanda:

@sugarwolf, I'd love to take the book off your hands! btw Micky & Peter are coming our way on tour really soon, I don't know the exact date.
  12:12pm
sugarwolf:

Cool, I'll bring it to the record fair sunday

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm

@Jack, second only to "Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la" in "Cinnamon."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm
Hoboken Jack:

True that.

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Isn't "Passionate Friend" the utmost?
Avatar 12:25pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@GF: Love the account in 'Head On' they do it on TotPops tripping absolute balls; the song is one which stops & starts over...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
Gaylord Fields:

As is my second favorite Teardrop Explodes "ba-ba-ba"-refrain song, "When I Dream." Julian Cope is sheepish in the good way.

@ Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Lip-synching on acid is no joke.

If it's Julian Cope 'ba ba ba's' you want then I respectfully suggest The Greatness and Perfection of Love.

I told my wife "anyway that you want me", she told me she wanted me to leave her alone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm

Speaking of Julian Cope on acid, I just remembered that at one point in his career, he insisted that his name was Kevin Stapleton and his band was called Whopper.

- indeed - always rated the Copester as under-recognized for Unpopular Pop composing skills...
  12:41pm
a listener:

@Gaylord it's one of those songs that the first time you hear it you think it's been around forever.Perfect Summer pop record in fact. Should have been a huge hit. That first solo record is still one of my faves.

Uncle Michael:

Happy Willie Day, everyone. Smoke it if you got it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63 @a listener: Julian was singularly adept at writing invisible pop hits. I currently have "Bill Drummond Said" rattling around my head looking for a place to settle. Even AmNazz's ace programming won't excise it!
  12:48pm
dennis diken:

"Gone Gone Gone" - just too much! and that Dick & Dee Dee track, just great. methinks Dick did Dee Dee's vocals as well as his own.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm
Gaylord Fields:

@dennis diken: Most people are unaware that Dick St. John actually sang the high and low parts on those D&DD records — Dee Dee sang the middle. (It was probably Dee Dee Sperling's replacement at that time anyway — or just Dick doing all the vocals, like you suggest.)
Avatar 12:52pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...wondered when I'd finally be exposed to the Everlys' original (Plant&Krause)...

Hey all, work hectic but enjoying the tunes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm

I hope it's not gauche to "fave" your own playlist tunes but Gone, Gone, Gone is heading for that fate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Amanda: Fave away! Stand by your "product"!
  1:02pm
sugarwolf:

@gaylord: In my head, I have bill Drummond singing "Julian cope is dead, I shot him in the head"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm

@sugarwolf: That's my favorite fake Scots murder ballad!
  1:08pm

@sugarwolf @Gaylord beat me too it! First thing I thought of when Gaylord mentioned Bill Drummond Said!

Which Martha? I always loved that there were two in the band.
  1:18pm
a listener:

@Amanda nope. it's static here as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm

I want to know: did they ever tour with the Waitresses or did they at least know each other? In my dreams they did.
Avatar 1:20pm

'Non-lexical vocables in music' wigkey:
en.wikipedia.org...
- I think Cope's are like horn parts? (a la 'A Quick One''s 'cellos'.) In 'Head On' he tells of The Jam walking past them in a studio as they're sprawled about in a state - & they dismissively say 'Hippies!' - but he notes they soon had horns on their records too...

@P-90: I believe it's a Spanish-language station now. The places where it would be played likely now have satellite feeds for this sort of thing.
Related: I once heard a soft-version cover of Yaz's "Only You" in a supermarket. "Only You" is not exactly a tooth-rattler of a tune to begin with.
