When I think of Jimmy Durante, I think of Fred Hyatt's Opera Show on KPFK. (Related story here: http://articles.latimes.com/1997-05-04/entertainment/ca-55194_1_political-show) One afternoon, Fred wrapped up a set list of arias performed by opera singers known and unknown, and then introduced a "real singer." He played a tune sung by Durante. It was perfect.

you can have a great voice but be a terrible singer by not having great taste and phoning it in. That's the root of my Paul Rogers problem. Also my Rod Stewart problem.

  1:21pm
Dean:

By "roofer," Doug, do you mean a dog? Won't that risk fleas?

Cecile, yes! Durante had a terrible voice, technically speaking, but he was a great singer. I can't pick on Stewart. He has made some wonderful records, wonderfully sung.
Avatar 1:22pm
Cecile:

I pick on his later stuff. His early stuff is darn near impeccable. That's why I'm so bitterly disappointed now.

Just finished my wife's immigration interview, it went very smoothly (minus being late b/c there was no L train). Now, I just need to nail this job interview next week, and I can return back to normal again (especially the a decent regular paycheck).

This job is actually in Brooklyn, and sort of my old job. They got funding to do the project again, but have different people running it, so, it's not a forgone conclusion. Now w/ the immigration thing no longer hanging over our heads, if I need to, I can take a job out of town (almost did a few times)

In addition to raising bucks for WFMU, the Drummer Stream would like to represent to the station and the world that it has loyal and sustaining fans. In some ways, getting a large volume of individual pledges is just as important as bringing in lots of dollars. If you haven't yet pledged, please take a moment and add your voice to the chorus expressing appreciation for all we do here at Give the Drummer Radio.

Tony's direct pledge link is here: www.wfmu.org...

Doug Schulkind:

We're kind of stuck on 62% and we really need to see a triple-digit percent, if you get my drift.

This is your last chance to show your support for all the hard work and wisdom Tony pours into his fantastic show. This here freeform program and it's tag-team buddy, Tape Hiss. Amazing music you adore and amazing music you've never imagined before. Tony delivers it to your inner ear each and every Tuesday and has done so on WFMU and the Drummer Stream since 1997.

Boost Tony's morale and boost WFMU's ability to continue bringing you this damn fine show for another year!
