BBC headquarters are in London, eight hours ahead of California. Begin listening for one hour at 4:00 p.m. PST. It is the next day in London. Then begin listening again at the 11:00 p.m. hour in California. After one hour, it's midnight. Continue listening for another hour. At 4:00 p.m. later that day, start again.

	3:40pm kat330: Thanks, Dean. Although several years younger, Philo's hearing is certainly not as sharp as mine. Probably because I don't use headphones to the extent he has even if listening to more music daily than he.

	3:45pm Dean: Yeah, kat, my gripe on Bryce's board was that the story was not about music per se, but headphones and ear buds. I can't tolerate either for too long. The damage to my hearing will probably always be due to that last Zeke show I attended.
	3:46pm kat330: @Dean: Well, I have to use 'phones when I'm recording, but I'm careful to take breaks, and bigger breaks between projects as well.
	3:47pm Samuel: I got the tinnitus so bad I have to punch my own head from time to time just to recalibrate it. It works, but I have big knots and sore areas.
	3:49pm Dean: Recording is a different story. While I imagine, were I an engineer, I would prefer playback through a well-designed system with loudspeaker monitors, I have to admit that one of my favorite producer/engineers, Marc Aubort (who worked extensively with Joanna Nickrenz) mixed with 'phones. I was shocked to read it, but there you are.
	3:51pm kat330: I mix both with and not. But when I'm recording a harmony track to a vocal I've done, or adding instrument parts, etc., I have no choice but to use the phones.
	3:54pm Dean: Multitracking is another issue. Marc Rusch, who engineers recordings on the CIMP label, solves the issue by using two microphones and introducing no overdubs. Rather, he solves the issue by recording only live acoustic sets. CIMP's are among the best consistently wonderful recordings I know. I wonder if he uses headphones?
	3:55pm kat330: Ha, my guess is he's doing this in a studio rather than his living room. Lucky you on the west coast, btw.

	3:58pm Parq: 1979 release. There are WFMU volunteers -- hell, WFMU air staffers -- who weren't born yet when "Fear of Music" first hit the stands.

	3:58pm Kurt Gottschalk: it's amazing how eno was live processing them while recording this, the same way (more or less) he had previously done with fripp's guitar and, to a lesser extent, with roxy.
	3:59pm Dean: "Almost every one of the recordings has been made in CIMP's Spirit Room studio at the Cadence Building, a room that is gaining quite a reputation for its ambiance and audio properties."

	4:00pm Parq: Lester Bangs called it his favorite comedy album of 1979, and if you listen, you realize that all of the songs are pretty wry at that.

	3:47pm Samuel: I got the tinnitus so bad I have to punch my own head from time to time just to recalibrate it. It works, but I have big knots and sore areas.

While I imagine, were I an engineer, I would prefer playback through a well-designed system with loudspeaker monitors, I have to admit that one of my favorite producer/engineers, Marc Aubort (who worked extensively with Joanna Nickrenz) mixed with 'phones. I was shocked to read it, but there you are.
	3:51pm kat330: I mix both with and not. But when I'm recording a harmony track to a vocal I've done, or adding instrument parts, etc., I have no choice but to use the phones.
	3:54pm Dean: Multitracking is another issue. Marc Rusch, who engineers recordings on the CIMP label, solves the issue by using two microphones and introducing no overdubs. Rather, he solves the issue by recording only live acoustic sets. CIMP's are among the best consistently wonderful recordings I know. I wonder if he uses headphones?
