davex, loose plan to go to Brno for MotoGP in August thence onward to Vienna. Travelling there and back by train.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:24am listener james from westwood:

@Doug: We were all out of the building for 1/2 hour. After the first 10 min I went to the local candy store for some OTC meds (as you saw on Twitter) and the bagel shop for a poppy seed bagel (more meds if you count the traces of opium). Waited a bit longer to come in, then all clear was declared. Glad no fire, & hell on the 1st responders (here yesterday for the same thing), but still: juuuust now thawed out to type well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am davex:

Sounds good, Brian, even if I know nothing about the MotoGP. Both cities are worth a visit! Would you be passing through these parts?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:25am Brian in UK:

Yucky, but glad it wasn't worse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am davex:

Brian, it could very well be on the way (or just a short detour in any case). I'd be very happy to show you around, depending on when in August, though.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:30am Brian in UK:

I think the race is around August 16th. Was considering the bus from Brno to Vienna. It will be heaving with motorcycle fans.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:31am listener james from westwood:

@Doug: Thanks. The much larger senior complex behind my bldg had a real fire last year. All safe, but they had a devil of a time evac'ing. Bldg fine, apartment suffered more water than fire damage. Frightful.

lucyinbrooklyn! I am warmer now that you're here.

They used that cheapo "light construction" on that Edgewater complex. Verging on the criminal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am Doug Schulkind:

Joining Mike Osborne's alto sax here is John Surman on baritone sax.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am Doug Schulkind:

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:14am listener james from westwood:

@Doug: On that complex and the deity knows how many other places in the 2000-2007 building boom. The maintenance working calling his boss first and not 9-1-1 for 15 min (with the fire station like 3 minutes away) didn't help.

OTOH, this McLean is the fine kind of smokin'.

Avatar 10:17am glenn:

google chinese drywall lawsuits, for something truly scary, and revealing. you'll never look at fly ash in the same way again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Doug Schulkind:

@glenn
I don't want to think about that until my nephew Reuben is home from his studies in China. (Where he has become, believe it or not, a star skateboarder. Crazy.)
Avatar 10:27am glenn:

well, no. the chinese drywall was being installed in american subdivisions, where it promptly started growing moulds at an unprecedented rate, causing many houses to be demolished, and many, many, many lawsuits.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:27am listener james from westwood:

@glenn, the entire Southwest is likely rife with that shit after the big building boom. Insectoid archaeologists 20 million years from now will chitter "WTF" when they unearth it.
