It's OK, just filling the larder with blizzard kibble. Carry on!

Sorry folks! We should be ready to roll in just a minute!
Avatar 12:17pm
Jeff J:

Thanks for your patience. We've got a special show planned that just happens to link up nicely with the weather.

Now making your stream go all blippy blappy, it's:
T.K. Ramamoorthy ~ "Kanakangi"

A cheeky yet awesome first selection.
Avatar 12:31pm
Jeff J:

Hey Listener James, Doug, Northguinehills, Duke -- appreciate you hanging with us on this slow-starting show!
Avatar 12:34pm
Carmichael:

Hiya Jeffs and people. Is this song yours? It's definitely not Roscoe Mitchell.
Avatar 12:36pm
Jeff J:

Hey Carmichael! We're into the show now, playlist is a bit behind but catching up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm
listener james from westwood:

Well worth the wait!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm
Jeff Golick:

So basically all bands should have at least two bass players.

Except for Sleater-Kinney.
  12:47pm
Doug Schulkind:

Dancer in the Dark is one of my favorite movies. It's brutal, but gorgeous. One of the best representations on film of the glory that is music.
Avatar 12:49pm
Jeff J:

Bjork said she made Vespertine during part of that movie as a way to cope with Von Trier and the on-set experience.
  12:51pm
Doug Schulkind:

I just say the name of that film and my wife starts bawling. (I do, too, on the inside.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm
Jeff Golick:

Re World of Glass - all instruments on this album are made out of glass.
  12:59pm
josh:

Thanks for playing this! It's something I've heard about more than I've heard...
Avatar 12:59pm
glenn:

blizzard kibble is my new band name.
  1:01pm
Alf from Upstate:

Mesmerizing.
Avatar 1:02pm
Jeff J:

Hey Josh - Thanks! It's a very different side of Gould, but he put his same obsessive sense of detail and artistry into the project. A very odd sort of radio play.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
Gary:

Howdy!
Avatar 1:03pm
Jeff J:

Thanks Alf from Upstate! Hopefully good winter listening.

Howdy Gary!

Hey Glenn aka Blizzard Kibble!
  1:06pm
Dean:

Suitable for today: John Luther Adams, and Wallace Stevens' "The Snow Man."
  1:10pm
Alf from Upstate:

I would be fine with just the sound of the rumbling train. The rest is gravy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm
listener james from westwood:

Yes indeed. Mesmerizing in ways bus and car travel aren't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm
Jeff Golick:

Something about this reminds me of the Firesign Theatre guys. In an unfunny way. Were they Canadian?
Avatar 1:27pm
northguineahills:

Well, Glenn Gould was Canadian (just popped back in, might have missed the context)
Avatar 1:30pm
glenn:

naw, that's that early 60's c.b.c earnestness thingy which imbued EVERY thing they did.
Avatar 1:30pm
glenn:

also, firesign was based in san francisco.
Avatar 1:30pm
Jeff J:

Firesign were American, I believe. Their first project was a Borges adaptation in 1967 - same year this was made. They were still finding their anarchic voices.
Avatar 1:34pm
βrian:

I feel like I need to put on my open-finger gloves now. My keyboard awaits.
Avatar 1:34pm
glenn:

speaking of great radio voices, this woman is a friend of ours, or at least my g.f.'s. - www.dw.de...
Avatar 1:39pm
Jeff J:

Hey Brian!

A REMINDER TO ALL THAT SINCE THE SHOW STARTED LATE, WE'LL BE GOING UNTIL 2:20 TODAY. Hope you can stick around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
listener james from westwood:

He's right about the warm Arctic bubbles not being there. Global warming and all.
Avatar 1:40pm
Carmichael:

Even after reading the Wikipedia entry for this and listening all the way, I still don't understand this piece at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
listener james from westwood:

This one guy sounds very sure of himself. Wonder how he's faring under Harper?
Avatar 1:44pm
Jeff J:

I'm not sure what there is to understand, Carmichael. It's impressionistic, composed with a musical ear as much as one to subject matter. Gould's motto here might be somewhat similar to the Scarfolk Council's "For more information, please re-listen."
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:52pm
Brian in UK:

No body knows the tribble I've seen.
We thought it was kibble Mr Spock but it seems we were looking astern.
So that's why the long face.
Avatar 1:54pm
northguineahills:

I recognized this Polygon Window (Aphex) piece, last on the album, the first second.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm
Jeff Golick:

You win, @ngh! What, I'm not 100% sure...
Avatar 2:03pm
northguineahills:

My wife just came inside, caked in snow. I love weather like this. I have plenty of food (made some northern thai naan jim noodles last night), I have beer, I'm good to go!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm
listener james from westwood:

It's definitely picking up in the Pascack Valley. Road is slowly losing its battle. Boughs clear but that will change soon I'm sure.
Avatar 2:10pm
glenn:

mmmm, snow cakes.
